Getting rear jacked up
Is there a good, safe way to jack up both sides of the rear of the car using only home floor jacks and floor stands? When I think about having one side jacked and then trying to do the other I worry the already-raised side will maybe fall over when I start doing the other. Is that a misconception? I'm going to paint the calipers and it sure would make it all go faster if I could do both rears at the same time.

I haven't tried jacking mine up yet, but all my other F-Bodies I just jacked up from the middle of the rear diff. If there is a good spot to put the jack on these cars under the rear diff, I would go that route.

Use the wide frame "box" in front of the rear wheel on both sides for both the jack and the jack stand. There's room for both. If stability concerns you, do it in steps, instead of all the way up on one side first. |

I have jacked my rear section dozens of times from the aluminum differential case. That aluminum housing is bullet proof. All of the shops jack from there. Just make sure it is sitting in the center and flat on the bottom edge.

Isn't there a rear cradle back there too? Don't see why that wouldn't work also...

These are the recommended floor-jack points for the SS.
Single jack point directly on the rear differential is not recommended, but I suppose if you could spread the load with a good 2x or 4x block it might be okay.

That's precisely where I raised mine from. Works just fine. I wouldn't put the weight on the diff either. It might work, but, you're putting much more weight of the car onto your jack rather than raising one wheel at a time.

Actually that's a modified race car chassis in the photo. The recommended read jacking points for a stock chassis are where the rear brace bolts to the frame box channels, just in from of the rear wheel wells.
And the differential case should not be used! |

When I did my calipers I lifted the front and rear on one side at a time. Jacked up the left front, placed a jack stand under the frame, then jacked the left rear and placed a jack stand under the frame. Same theory (2 calipers at a time), just one side at a time. No biggie.

Man getting a jack to the front lift points is going to be a hassle. I need to go buy a low pro jack.

Also after jacking up where is a good place to put the jack stands. Doing my exhaust and will have to have all 4 corners up.
