How nasty is the SS?

OK, so I have been addicted to this site for months and have read what feels like 100,000 posts/threads. Although I have been a GM fan my whole life (Dad is a retiree), I have never had a car with a lot of power. My favorite car ever (and fastest) was a '88 Cavalier Z24 with a whopping 2.8L and 125hp. It felt VERY fast, although in hindsight I'm not so sure.

....So fast forward 20 years and I have a 2SS/RS Vert on order. I originally ordered a L99 because my wife talked me into it. I felt a lot of remorse for that decision (pun intended) and talked my wife into allowing me to change it to a LS3. Thanks honey!

My experience so far with the camaro is a short test drive of an L99 coupe. I got on it a little, but didn't really get a chance to feel its power. I am absolutely jacked out of my mind waiting for this car. It is all I think about all day. My wife is about to have me commited.

....sorry for the long story. The question I have is this: I have read conflicting info on this site about the nastyness of the SS. I have heard that unless you apply break, you can't get the wheels to break loose. I have heard from others that if/when you turn off the mechanical "training wheels" hold on to your a$$ and make sure that there are no other cars around. So which is it? I know that I'll find out for myself in 6 weeks or so but I would really like to know.

When you turn off the training wheels, can you lay a patch of rubber without applying break?

I have laid rubber into 3rd gear. Turn off traction control and its plenty fun...slip it into Competition Mode and its funner...hold the magic button down for 7 seconds and the car is wide open to your level of balls!

Its as nasty as you dare....whatever the case, you WILL enjoy driving it...maybe not so much filling up up so often!

Let's just put it this way,.....when you turn off "traction-control" and "stability control", you officially put this car into "uncontrolled behemoth" mode, because it's damned fast. And it is very easy to get this thing up to the limit,....155. Put it into sport mode and turn everything off, and this car is very dangerous; you can seriously get in trouble if you don't know how to control this thing. Very fast car. And don't talk about the speed you experience after you mod it.........

I also have an L99 that has no trouble laying stripes with the "training wheels" off. point it in a straight line and jump into it... the only things that keeps it from stepping to far to the side is the second gear shift. Shift it manually and you are treated to way more fun than the average person should be allowed to have. Turn the wheel while you do it and be prepared to pedal it or do some aggressive counter steering.

All that being said....turn the "training Wheels" back on and you realize just how far we have come with traction control systems. Even on wet roads the training wheels let drive aggressive and heavy footed with much worry.

Congrats on your order, im even excited for you!!! and judging by the excitement in your post the PERMAGRIN has already begun and the car isnt built yet!!

are you l99 owners saying that you can be at 0 MPH. with the RPM at idle and with no break just floor it and LAY DOWN black strips?

compare to me in my manual dropping the clutch at 4-5k RPM. at 0 MPH
