If they handily exceed the 2011 GT500 in the power department, I'll have no issue paying it. If they stick with the 550-556hp number and there's a tax, I'd be pretty disappointed.

Yep, but the 2011 GT500 doesn't.

Yes, the CTS-V auto averages 14mpg and the manual averages 16mpg. The gas guzzler tax rate is $5400 tax for the auto and a $3700 for the manual.

According to a newspaper article it was $2600, that would be an entire bracket higher but that would be the minimum.

Yikes, that's high. The coupe is listed as $1300 for manual and $2600 for auto for the GG tax. That's much more reasonable and bodes well for the ZL1.

http://autos.yahoo.com/cadillac/cts-...d/options.html

As long as they bring the goods, I'm ok with paying anything under $2k for the GG tax.

Yeah, I seen what it listed for but, its kinda hard to be placed in a bracket when your maximum highway mpg (19mpg) is lower than the brackets minimum..

??????

Something isn't right...

According to Yahoo link I provided above, the combined fuel economy for the CTS-V coupe is 16 for the manual. According to your chart the GG tax should be at least $3700.

So how is it listed as $1300 instead?

Heres the link to the EPA's website
http://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/guzzl....htm#calculate

Looks like somebody fudged the numbers...

It looks like it would be $3700 for the manual and $5400 for the auto, might be why there is no ZL1 auto as of now.

I'm guessing the manufacturer absorbs some or all of these costs instead of passing the full amount on to the consumer in the form of a GG tax?

Heck, the 2011 GT500 has a combined fuel economy of around 17 MPG. It would, however, escape the tax according to the EPA chart if they used the HWY 23 MPG figure instead of the combined number. But the EPA clearly states that they use the combined formula when determining GG tax.
