My mileage after 700 miles seems kinda low.

i have roughly 700 miles now and so far i am getting 18.1 mph avg. this seems kinda low. i have a 1LT V6 so not like i am driving the v8. it said the car would get alot higher then that. is it a problem with my car? i live in nyc by the way but i only really drive it at night so not much rush hour.just a bit.but ya once in awhile i do get some traffic. i drive preety safely and most of the times i keep the rpm below 2k. i dont speed either. but should it be this low still?

what are others getting in their mileage?

ps: most of my driving is in a highway as well.

also its an automatic.

I normally get 22-23 mpg with regular use. I live in a community where there is alot of stop and go too, so i would think you should get at least 2-3 mpg more than what you are getting.

I don't go by the computer for my mileage.... so I fill my car up until the gas nozzle shuts itself off so its the same every time.

So if I drive 300 miles on a tank, and i put 16.4 gallons in her, then I divide 16.4 into 300 to get my MPG.

I'm normally around 18 city... I did mostly highway driving the other day to Auburn and got 360 miles out of my tank and I was around 23-24 MPG....

The mileage will be lower during the break in period. They will continue to get better as you put more miles on your car, especially after you hit 1,500 miles. Is most of you driving on city streets or is it freeway driving? That will also affect your driving. Also, a few others have noted lower mpg's with the winter fuel blend. I have a little over 16,000 miles on my car and have averaged 24 mpg with approx. 65% highway and 35% city driving.

i started at like 20ish actualy and it kept going lower. but ya only 700 miles. for those saying it gets better, roughly how much mileage were you guys getting around 500-600 miles. and what do you get now? maybe i need to drive faster to break in the car? highest i went is 70.

well the mileage in the car is supposed to be pretty good compared to others. so that was 1 reason i chose it. but i guess maybe i do need to give it more time.

Also, don't be afraid to let the engine run out to 3k or so. Sometimes babying a car can have adverse effects. Moreso in a manual trans car--you can be dumping fuel but not utilizing the torque that's available at slightly higher RPM which would be getting you better fuel mileage. If you've got an auto, let it take care of the shifting for optimal mileage, but 2k is pretty low. Those 3.6's really like to run, so don't be surprised if you put your foot into it a little more and see the same or slightly better mileage.

And, as others have mentioned, it's too early to tell. After 5k is when I'd say your fuel mileage is indicative of a fully-broken in engine.

Any changes in the tire/wheel size? Not 100% sure it would affect the MPG tracker like it would with the odometer. Did you change into smaller winter/all-season? or change back to summers?
