Whoever told you that probably came to that conclusion when they heard the SS doesn't have a spare tire. They're wrong.
Instead of a spare, we get an electric air pump and some goo...

Plugs the hole with the goo and inflates it back to normal. Then you have to get a new tire because I don't think it lasts that long.
