Self-destructing key fob

So I get out of my car at the post office the other day, shut the door, turn around to walk off and feel something funny in my hand. I look down, and lo and behold, my key fob has self-destructed in my hand. Two plastic halves, a circuit board, the key itself, spring and button. Surprise surprise!

Fiddled around with it until all the guts were reinstalled and the (cheap) plastic case was snapped back together.

Wonder if this is covered under the "bumper-to-bumper" warranty? I guess if the tech can't replicate it, it won't be fixed. I'm thinking about just gluing the two halves together (but leaving the battery door free).

Anyone else with a self-destructing key fob?

Wow! Sorry to hear about that. I was wondering how long these Fobs would last. Mine keeps opening in my pocket. I guess it`s just a matter of time.
Mine is only four months old though. How long have you had yours? :(

It's probably a year old now. And no, it's not modded! (What kind of mods can you do to a fob?)

I would agree with lightner75 and SlingShot on this one. Your fob should be covered under you new vehicle warranty. I would suggest letting your dealership know about the issue and see what they have to say about the issue. Possibly showing them how easy it is for the key to come apart would help your case in this regard. I hope you're able to get this issue resolved. Let us know how it goes for you.
