Watching Your Camaro Being Unloaded

I would love to be at my dealer when my car is rolled off the truck. I have been trying to figure out how I could get the info when it will be due to arrive.

I have a feeling my dealer would rather not have me watching in case "something" happens. That way, if the are able to repair any damage without a trace, they won't have to tell me.

I think I need to find myself an dealer "insider".

Anybody else wanting to do this?

I'm sure if you ask them, they will let you. But I don't think they get "exact" dates that the cars will be delivered... just a time window. Then sometimes it even shows up early, if I recall correctly someone mentioned that... so really, I'm not even sure your dealer will be able to tell you the exact day your car will be in. That's just something I recall reading not sure how accurate it is.

Dealers... is this correct? Or is your shipping info usually pretty accurate?

That should be information your dealer is willing to share with you - they should appreciate your wanting to follow your new car step-by-step. My dealer has said I could watch mine every step of the way as it is delivered.

We get a rough idea from GM and can call the Dealer Business center. They can track the trucks and loads. We have a lot of vehicles that are built outside of Michigan end up in New Boston when they are railed here. They unload and put on trailers. It is up to the drivers to get the loads to us. I've heard drivers say that they have avoided loads if they were out in the mud. That can screw up shipment times.

Sometimes the ship data is good sometimes it's not so good.

In dealing with Vettes, we have customers ALL the time that want to see their babies off-loaded from the truck. We normally know when they are done building the Vettes and Allied shipping does the shipments. If we call Allied with a VIN we can usually get a date plus or minus a day depending on how many stops the truck makes before getting to our dealership.

I am not sure if Allied or someone else is doing the Camaro shipments. I HOPE it is like the Vettes and we will be able to check with them via a VIN #. Allied will NOT tell customers when they are going to be at a dealer, only we can get the info. Seems a bit odd to me but that's the way it has worked on Vettes so I assume it will be the same for Camaros.

Here is hoping anyway! I know when MINE comes in I want to be there if at ALL possible and I work at the dealership. LOL!

I want to be there when they unload mine. I have a feeling the guys may want to "test" it before they hand over the keys. Just to be able to hear it turn on for the first time would be PRICELESS.

I don't know if it still happens, but I use to see trucks sitting at dealerships in the middle of the night unloading cars. It didn't always happen during business hours.

I've never bought a new car before so Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean but don't they turn on the car at the factory and at the dealership to move it around, so the first time the car gets started you wouldn't be there??

I have told my dealer the same....he knows I have a video camera ready to tape everything....if I can hold the camera still will be another story!

They said most of the time the trucks get there very late, or early EARLY am....either way, if I have to camp out the night before, so BE it.

most transports offload in the middle of the night and the cars don't usually go through PDI until the next morning, so unless you planning on sitting and looking at the car sitting locked on the lot all night, you're better off waiting til they call you to let you know it's ready
