bit of a stutter when idle
First off, loving my 2010 SS, just got it this week, and the things a beast. I generally use my motorcycle for speed, but it's good knowing the car has the juice to get in and out of sticky situations when need be.
Just a question though. I notice when idling in neutral the car has a bit of a stutter too it. Kind of like a strong vibration shaking the car a bit, and figured it's just the normal feeling of the V-8 during idle but wanted to check with the forum to be sure. Thanks !. |

You could be referring to the rougher idle profile of the cam in the LS3(if yours is an m6) I'm not sure if it is the same for the L99 but i'm going to venture a guess and say yes.

This is normal on the NEW engine and it idles smoother after you get some miles on her.

If you have the manual with the ls3..this is normal

Yea, it is the ls3, manual so I am glad it is not something to do with the engine. Thanks again for the info, very helpful forum.

I cant believe no body has suggested the old fuse pull. If you just picked it up the dealer probably put 87 octane fuel in it. This will change the tables. I would fill the tank a few times with highest octane possible wherever you are. Than pull fuses 5 & 20 and keep them out overnight. This will reset your tables to high octane fuel. This might be the issue, might not, just my suggestion. But a good rumble out of our big beastly LS3's is normal.

the rumble was one of the first things I noticed when I drove my car home. I thought to myself "now this car has a big engine!!!" Of course, my initial thought was just that there was so much torque even at idle, the engine mounts were shaking. Since then I learned that it has to do with the more aggressive LS3 camshaft and the valve timing causing the engine to "sputter" sort of at idle (but not meant in a negative way, just the valve overlap causes air and gas that has not been burnt to exit into the exhaust causing the rough idle)

I might as well try this as well. When I test drove it, the dealer mentioned he drove the car for a week when they first got in ( bought it used, 5,000 miles ). We were just bouncing questions around and I mentioned the using of premium gas, which to my surprise he said " oh, really ?, never heard of that ". I assume they had been filling it up with regular since they got it. |
