Fender bender; how bad is this?

Some guy in a M3 slid into me last night. His grill tattooed my bumber with small notches on the left side and took off paint on the right side.

I was so mad, I was flustered. Now I'm bummed out...

What is going to take to repair this? Touch up paint? Bondo and repaint the whole bumper?

Can repair shops even get CGM?

Why worry about what itll take to get it fixed. It was an accident right? You made a police report right? So take it to a body shop and let his insurance deal with the body shop in what it'll take. Don't stress out.

Probably cheaper to pay out of pocket depending on the deductable. That doesn't look so bad and I am sure they can match the color.

If someone hit him why would he have to pay the deductable, it should be on the guy that hit him and he should not have to pay a thing?

True, but the guy was driving an M3, so he should have the insurance or the money to pay for it. If not, he can sell his car to get the money.

I'm waiting to hear more from the op about insurance and police report.

And op, these days with the plastic bumper covers, you pretty much have to replace the whole thing for anything worse than a scratch.

M3's insurance should have to cover it (he rear ended you, right), but I'm not that familiar with NY state law. Have the bumper replaced. Paint shouldn't be a problem.

Rangers, really?? Kiddin. I work for the Hurricanes!! Hey, we both have a Staal (Mark and Eric, we also have Jared in the AHL) - so it's Staal Good.. Good luck

Well I made the foolish mistake of NOT calling the cops and doing a police report. I've been informed that I can't do a claim through his insurance now. I'm such a dumb ass...

Hopefully he keeps his word of paying out of pocket...

I always learn the hard way...

File a claim through your insurance and give them his info. They will go after him. Did you write his contact info down from his license?

Lots of bad information in this thread. Let me tell you how it is. I just went through the same situation basically.

Few weeks ago I was hit by a van without insurance. I called the cops, got their information, and turns up the insurance was expired. My deductible is $1000, and the total damage to my bumper was only $636. (reform and repaint)

First of all, and what sucks the most, is your insurance is not going to go after him if the damage is under your deductable. They are out 0 dollars, so why would they? This is the run around I got with my insurance, Allstate, with full coverage, of 20 years.

Second of all, the plastic bumper cover damage as Cbrenth mentions, is incorrect. Plastic has a "memory" so to say, so they can heat it up and it will go right back to its normal form. However, if the plastic has been perforated you're looking at a replacement.

The guy that hit me told me up front he would pay for it just get an estimate. Didn't trust him, still called the cops and did all the right legal things, and he still won't give me my money. He hasn't answered a single call after I told him the estimate, nor will he return the calls of me, the dealer, or our lawyers. I will be seeing him in court, which I fear is the best you'll get out of Mr. M3.

The good news though is they can fix it back to good as new. I have CGM as well and can't notice it ever happened.

Talking about misleading information. Half of what you said is misleading or inaccurate. If he gets by hit a uninsured motorist then most likely his insurance company going to pay for it depending if he has uninsured motorist coverage. I have State Farm and I hit a deer. I was suppose to pay a 100 deductible but it got waived. I don't foreseeing him have to pay a dime out of pocket as long as he has the proper coverage. Second plastic is not like memory foam it doesn't just go back to place. Plastic does not go back to its orginal state being after heated. Your situation is far from the same as his as I have read from both post . This guy best bet would be to have his insurance company deal with the othee guys insurance company and go from there. Why he didn't get a report is beyond me. I don't care if its $200 or $2000 worth of damage. A official report is always your best bet. Good luck to you!

Now a days it is cheaper to replace the bumper cover than repair it, Yes they can repair damage like you have (I have had it done before), they make a polyurethane filler to do so, as long as it just has gouges and is not perforated and/or stretched out of shape, but they still have to repaint it. the labor alone to repair would pay for the cost of a new cover.

I assure you none of my information is misleading. I am going through the same situation right now, and all of my info is coming straight from insurance agents, estimators, and body shops. I never said plastic is like memory foam, and then you contradicted yourself and said it goes back to its normal state when being heated, exactly as I said.

Also, uninsured motorist coverage only covers costs pertaining physical injuries to yourself. The insurance company is not going to do squat for this guy if the damage is under his deductible. If you're hit by someone without insurance, you still have to pay the deductible. Then they will go after the guy and get your money back, then theirs. However, if it is under your deductible, they don't give a rats ass. That is what Allstate told me.

As I said, I am going through the same thing right now and my insurance company isn't helping at all. I got police reports, insurance claims, the whole nine yards, and my only option is to take this guy to court.
