Anyone know where there was such a big drop from 1998 to 1999?

it seems the numbers dropped from ~90k per year to ~40k per year, and never recovered after that timeperiod.

the numbers would have dropped even lower if GM continued with that ugly design. the 68 camaro looked just beautiful, it still does look great, but the 4th gen camaro, you've gotta admit it is an ugly ugly car. (no offense to anyone out there who owns one).

But then, my old boss prefers that design over the old one Everyone's got their own tastes I guess.... some just better than others

It was not ugly it just was stale and not refreshed. That's when everyone started driving Explorers.

Then the Exploders Firestone fiasco made people switch to Tahoe's and Suburbans and the imported Suv's etc.

GM was punch drunk from SUV and Truck profits and the Camaro folks got the short stick. Probably if Ford didn't revive the Mustang with a new model and the Charger this car would not of gotten the green light.

Didn't some guy pay a bunch for the last production Camaro off the line in 2002. I wonder if he's pissed they brought it back.

Nevermind, found this article. http://money.cnn.com/2002/08/28/pf/a...tion/index.htm

Uh, the last Camaro off the line was a RED Z28 COnvertible and it is in the GM Collection, unless they recently sold it. They had it on display at the 40th Anniversary Celebration in Warren September 2007.

I have a photo of it on my home computer and will add later tonight.

Correct me if im wrong but the public misconception was that they got stupid expensive compared to the mustang in the later years. This is one thing they got right this time they kept this car very affordable for the average joe.

I don't remember where I read this so I don't know how true it is.

I read one reason the 4th Gen Camaro had a hard time competing with the Mustang was it was too aggressive looking and too long. The percentage of 4th Gen Camaros and Firebirds that were sold to women was very small compared to the Mustang. Market research said that the 4th Gen cars were too tough looking for most women. Simply stated very few women bought 4th Gen Camaros and Firebirds and they are a large part of market share. I wish I could remember where I read this but it was years ago right after the decision was made to discontinue the F-Bodies. No sexism here, I think women look great in any Generation F-Body. Just stating what I read.
