Question Splash Guards-- help! Also clear bra questions

OK, so I keep seeing posts here and elsewhere about paint chipping on my gills because of my 20" rims and how I need splash guards to keep this from happening. I have 4,000 miles on my car now (yes, I know, it's a lot in a month and a half :( I just can't stop driving her) and I have yet to notice a paint chip anywhere but on the hood. So is this a serious problem? How many of you have personally experienced it?

I'm also really not crazy about the huge GM ones. Are the RPI stealth guards a viable option? Do they work? I want as much input as possible

Does GM STILL not offer IBM splash guards? Last post I saw talking about it was a year ago.

Also, on the clear bra-- what does that cost, where can I get it done, and is UV fade an issue? I don't want the nose a different color than the rest of the car in a few years. What does it look like after a rock hits it? Is it necessary? I want to know as much as possible. Thanks all

Not sure about the spalsh guards but if you get the paint protection film you should not need them. The film will hold up to a lot of abuse if it is properly taken care of. Once installed just wash as you would your paint and apply a good sealant on it. Thats it. Rocks typcailly do not damage the film... unless it is a large rock then really nothing will stop it. Prices for clar bras can vary depending on location, material used, quality of installer, and amount of coverage. A pretty standard install for the Camaro is the bumper, partial hood, partial fenders, ligts, mirrors, and rocker panels (which include the gills). An average price would be about $1100 for that amount of film... and would be all you would need.

Where in Arkansas are you located?

IBM has been discontinued on cars, so I doubt that they will finally make IBM colored splash guards. I used black on mine because of my black and blue theme and they really do save the paint on the wheel well exposed surfaces. I also have a clear bra on the front and mirrors and it has saved my car many times. Well worth the price. Good luck! Nice car!

I'm in Fort Smith... and to be perfectly honest, that is completely out of my price range after blowing $28,000 on this car. Also... I really don't want that much film on my car because it's 'nearly' invisible... not totally... so I may just go with the splash guards and keep her waxed.

Thanks, Dane According to one of the guys here that works for GM, they're going to try to bring back IBM in 2012. They'll have to do something, since without it there is no blue... so weird.

Yeah, I've been reading that they are trying to get 20,000 to commit to the color before they produce some blue variant. Unlikely to be IBM, but who knows! Good luck!

It would blow my mind for them to not offer blue but to be honest I'm fine with that, will make my car that much more rare!!
