In the wrong part of powerband or what?

Not sure exactly what this is due to, but it's happened a few times. I was merging today and was stuck behind one of those people that can't seem to get up to speed. Anyway, when I was able to get over I gave it some gas but not full throttle. This merge sucks, and you have to get over like 3 lanes in a short distance. I really needed to get over, so I punched it. The car went, but not as fast as I thought it would. It was like it should've downshifted another gear but it didn't. So basically, I just ran all the way through whatever gear I was in (seemed like it took forever). I didn't try downshifting manually with the tapshift, but at this point, my RPMs were probably too high anyway. BTW, I have the auto.

Heavy car with a V6 and your perceived expectations?

And note, I am NOT V6 bashing with that suggestion so don't even go there people.

ALWAYS drive in M cause if you had and downshifted two gears. Trust me you would have flew like a bat out of hell!. D in this car sucks S is better M is the best. Unless i wish to just put put around i ALWAYS USE M

Like last night i was cruiseing with a friend of mine he was driveing his 92 camaro SS. We was going up a steep hill and my car bogged hardcore. I ended up going into M and slaming it down two gears. Then i flew up the hill to keep up with him had i kept driveing that agrresively. I would have flew past him like he was standing still . I was not speeding or raceing i did not know the aera we was in AT ALL and i wanted to keep up with him to make sure i would not get lost. So the D mode to me like to hold you back ALOT and i mean ALOT it loves to bog the motor out to save you gas. I have messed around with all three setings alot and the more i drive it the more i hate D. But for normal put put cruise mode D is good for something JUST NOT THAT VERY OFFTEN!

Valid point, but that wasn't it. I know what this thing will do when it downshifts on the freeway and the engine roars. It was like it should've dropped down a few gears, but only dropped down one. This happens sometimes too when I slow down to turn a corner. I turn, and then give it gas and it goes, but not very aggressively. One time I tap shifted to see what gear I was in, and it was already in 3rd or 4th or something.

Yeah, I hear ya. I almost always drive in S mode. I think in this case, I should've just downshifted myself using the tapshift. S mode is definitely better than D, but even in S, it seems that it likes to upshift quickly (unless I'm really heavy on the throttle).

Is getting stuck in too high a gear when I really wanna be in a lower one what "bogging" means?

The 6, will fly, must have needed to drop a gear or 2. Sport mode would have done it for sure.

Mine has done that a few times. Mostly seems to happen
In "d". When I get my hp tuners software I'm gonna try to correct it in "d"

bogging means the rpm and power band is going below what the motor can handle. You can feel the whole car shake and slow down alot. And maybe not a 92 camaro maybe it was an RS. I could be mistaken he had his back badge on his bumper covered up. And it was dark at night so i was just guessing SS i don't know if i am wrong please correct me

When ever you really want to get on it ...tap the gas pedal twice or three times ...thats how many gears it will downshift..TRY IT!

Is it tuned? If not that is your issue right there. Your car is an auto, the tranny really needs a good tune to make it come alive. It will fix your shifting issues.

Who knows what happened...if you stand on it going 60 or less the auto V6 will jump down into 2nd gear...anything above that (within posted speed limits) should jump to 3rd for sure. maybe yours only decided to drop to 4th or 5th for whatever reason....who knows.

Wouldn't worry about it too much if the car feels fine other than that.

That is more likely. They didn't make SS Camaros from 74-97. In which case, the car either has a 170 hp 305, or a crappy 2.8L V6. All 3rd gen RSs are dogs if they're stock. It was the base model during those years.
