Help!! RS Conv. V6, or SS/RS coupe?
O.k., red RS/SS auto, no sunroof, or a Silver RS convertible V6 auto. both brand new 2011's loaded out. The Convertible is 3000 less.
I commute 160 miles a day so gas is an issue also. Any input, intelligent input would be appreciated. |

Man that is a long commute! I would get a small 4 cyl for that many miles a day. But if you really want to do it in a Camaro get the convertible it will make the commute much more fun at least in the summer plus it won't need the 93 octane as you will be filling up a lot.

If you want gas mileage get the v6, you can always upgrade if you feel the need.

The SS is usually going to be more intriguing because of its power and rep. If your 160 miles / day are mostly shorter trips and there's no way to really stretch her legs for any mentionable distance, then fuel consumption will be an issue. If your trips consist of longer distances without too many stoplights / stop-and-go traffic, it's a real contender.
The 'vert offers a completely different driving experience, yet, the 6 cyl. still has sufficient power to get you into trouble, offers better fuel economy over the SS and you don't see that many of them on the road - at least I haven't here in suburban Washinton DC / Northern Virginia / Maryland. As was suggested, maybe get an inexpensive but reliable DD and buy the Camaro for more pleasurable driving. Whatever your preference, can reasonably afford (payments, insurance, fuel) and, remember, "when the top comes down, the price goes up" when you're ready to get a new car. Seeing that you're in Michigan, you may want to consider what it'll be like to drive in snow and ice with a rear wheel drive car. A lot of people don't have that significant problems and just as many do. Something for you to consider, as well. Good luck and keep us posted as to your decision.

Thanks for the input.
How do you like your convertible? Does the added road noise bug you? |

I drove the SS and was not too impressed to tell you the truth. I was not liking the low revving of the engine, my previous LT revved much faster and I have grown to like that.

I am the type that drives in the dead of winter with the top down, and leaves the top up in the summer and cranks the a/c.

prob gunna piss some ppl off but here it goes. I really dont consider a 6 banger a muscle car, so my vote, SS..No contest. When you think of wicked muscle cars of the old days do u think of a 69 SS with a big block or a 69 with an inline 6? ...???LOL

V6 or V8 aside....I like the 'vert, but not enough to buy one. So I'd pick the coupe. Now, with your situation of driving that many miles I'd do a V6, but I'd want a coupe. Your choice though. Pick what you feel you want more.

Cheaper on fuel cheaper on price cheaper on ins save you a boat ton of money with the V6......BUT the V8 would be nice to say you own the legend that is SS and this car lives up to the badge but my vote would be. Where you live how far you drive as a DD get the 6 banger
