Exhaust and CAI gelp

Ok just bought a 2012 RS conv V6 on Saturday. I have been reading and LOVING these forums for about 3 weeks. Just cant quit narrow down my choices with the other threads so sorry for starting a new thread.

Nice forums btw.

On the my questions.

I was thinking of doing the Airaid CAI and a Solo Mach X-LLT (if it fits the '12)
I see everyone recommending the MRT V2 for the sound quality, but which is better for overall performance?

Cat-back vs. Axle back which is going to give me better performance results?

Hope these questions make sense I have not done any car performance upgrades in over 12 years so I am dated on my knowledge.

Thanks Corey

I just installed the solo exhaust and a cai from cai inc yesterday and the sound is incredible. I would definitely go with the solo mach with j pipes. Well worth the money in my opinion. Good luck

A catback will give you better perfromance results. It replaces more of your exhaust, axlebacks are pretty much the mufflers and tips. CAI and Roto-Fab are our top sellers for intakes but the Roto-Fab doesn't fit the 2012.

Just wait for a few thousand miles and you will get the final sound that Solo's will give you. The sound and grumble are getting better and better with some milage. That what happend to my car.

Which exhaust to select??

Hi Guys,

I have been watching alot of videos with diffrent exhausts, but to be honest watching a video due to the diffrent mics used doesn't help much. I have been trying to figure out which exhaust I should use on my 2012 2LT. I can not stand that loud rattle the V6 makes when reving the RPMs with some of those exhausts. I guess, basicaly I am looking for an exhaust that will imitate the V8 gurgle as much as possible with ou tthe super annoying V6 rattle (if such a thing exhists)

While a catback will give you better performance over axleback the gains are still minimal.

For just regular DD performance how much difference will it really make IYO?

The CAI will increase the butt dyno a bit. But the exhaust is really just for sound IMO.

This is pretty true. The axlebacks offer nothing for performance. Catbacks might gain you 10 HP or so. If you want bigger gains you need to ditch the stock cats and exhaust manifolds. A catback is a nice starting point though and if you toss a CAI and put them in at the same time its a nice modest boost in performance.

Well listening to more videos, reviews here and all your advice I think I might go for a Airaid CAI headers and an MRT axel back system. With the price difference on the catback vs axel back I can get the headers.

Any other thoughts.

P.S. I love these forums I have been glued to them for the last 6 days lol so many great minds, super excellent advice and nice folks to boot.

Don't think anybody makes headers for the '12s with the integrated manifold...

Correct. No company is making headers for the new V6 engine (LFX?). The difference between an axle-back and a catback is that a catback starts right after your catalytic converters and the axle back starts well after the rear axle.

I've got the Airaid CAI and MRT V2 axle back. Real happy with them. For a modest cost you do hear and feel the improvement.
