What will NHRA tracks do if you run sub 11.5s with your ZL1?
With GM working so hard on tuning the new ZL1 for the track, running the quarter around 11.5 in stock trim might actually be possible. Anyone have experience with how NHRA views factory cars this quick? I know any modified cars need a rollbar once they break 11.5.
I can't see the ZL1 coming with a rollbar option from the dealer as it would negatively affect crash safety for passengers in the rear seat. |

I don't think any e.t's have been posted for the ZL1 although I'm sure the folks at GM have some numbers. Would be great to have some e.t numbers leaked...hint hint nudge nudge...

Simple, you'll need a bar.

I believe the power-to-pavement is going to be awesome, but by all accounts the weight will be over 4k by at least a bit. I don't think there's enough torque to push that buggy 1320 ft. in less than 11.8. I would love to be wrong, but anything under 12.0 is great and under 11.9 is completely jaw-dropping for a factory setup. .

As others have said, I don't think it's possible to break 11.5 stock.
The Corvette ZR-1 does the 1/4 in like 11.2, and it has about 80 more horsepower and weighs at least 700 pounds less. But a good question to ask would be, "What do they do to ZR-1's that break 11.5?" seeing as they can and do. |

+many - ZL1 isn't going to pull a mid-11 stock. I could see a 11.8, with absolutely astute drivers, but I wouldn't expect too much more.
I DO hope for more though ![]() If it were to run that fast, it'll be time for a cage and other goodies. That would suck... lol.

If its an organized event then you will probably be asked to not run again if you break the 11.5 barrier. If its a private thing then usually there is no tech and you will be good to go. It really depends on the track and its officials. I typically only see the tech guys get twitchy if you are pushing the 9 second barrier with more scrutiny on the low 10 second cars. Again every track is different and I hope the ZL1 can hit that number, it will be awesome.

HOWEVER, I do conceed this is not a strip car. This is a multi-tool pony car. To say that it's not tuned for the strip is incorrect though, if you want to be black and white about it. Quote:

I've engaged the LC on my 2010 GS on two occasions & all it did was spin for ~100 feet before gaining traction. I would have quit after the first try,but I replaced the GY's with PS2's and wanted to see if that helped. It didn't. Both times were on nice, smooth asphalt with ambient temps in the 80's. Hopefully the LC on the ZL1 is much improved. |
