convertible ripping

i have notice today that i was starting to have a small tare in the roof. took to the dealership ask me a few questions and i told them the truth. They look at the top and made me up it up and down few times and they did some checking and they found out the conv were having some issues with the top and my top is going to be replace. could be a few weeks before they replace it. i am so not happy with GM.

Why are you not happy with GM? They are going to replace your top, probably have to order one, and there are a lot of tops being replaced right now.

Not with the top, however, the day I bought mine (2.5 hours away), the air conditioning went out 1/2 way home. I took it to my dealer the next day, and they had to order a compressor. Took about 2 weeks for the part to come in and get it put in, and I wasn't bitter at all. These cars are fairly new, and the parts distribution can take a bit of time. As long as it is fixed to my satisfaction, that's all that matters.

Yes, expect some issues with the first year of a new model. Consider it part of the yin / yang: cool new model everyone looks at vs. we're going to have some issues.

they had years and testing all the bugs should have been worked out

My AC belt was routed wrong at the factory and squealed like hell after I reached 750 miles. Dealer replaced it and it runs like a champ again. Anyone know how may 2011 convertibles were built and how many were SS with the RS package?

Actually, while that would be an exageration in general, in this case it was less than a year to launch due to the original supplier of the convertible system during the program development going out of business:

http://www.autocarbe.com/chevrolet/t...bled-by-magna/

At around or less than a year before launch, GM had to re-source the convertible top due to Edsche going out of business. In short, this is the timeframe where production tooling is usually kicked off.

As I've said in the other thread, it has not been the best of times for convertible suppliers.

I've got to assume this is another victim of the same issue the rest of the early builds have and is well documented in the 2,500,000 page "does your top have wear marks" thread...

when i took my convertible in for minor service, the service manager inspected my top for about twenty minutes and noted a couple of small wear spots on the drivers side near the frame above the window. I thought he was just protecting himself, but am wondering if they know something and are looking for it.

Mine goes in on Tuesday morning. Jeff Morris from GM has called the dealership. I have delayed this for 2 months and finally think that it will be done correctly.

No need to bash. Talking down and bad of this issue will get us nowhere. Talking nice and working out the problems is the best way to do it. I had my first top replaced after 6 weeks. Took it in today and I need another top. 2 weeks from 1st replacement to 2nd.Am I angry? Yes! Will bitching get me anywhere? No! Even the dealership says I am being way to calm about it. Where will it get me? Nowhere. Now a calm person that understands they are having issues will either get it fixed correctly or get a new car out of it.

Hey Steve... Maybe you should take a breather. GM is going to fix your car, chill out, read a book and relax.
