Thinking about buying an SS..

I'm currently thinking about buying a 2010-2011 SS. I have a few questions, by the way this is my first time posting.

Ok im not quite sure if id rather own a mustang or a camaro (never thought I'd ever say that) I currently have a 97 z/28 that i love, but i just would really love a new SS or possibly a GT... after seeing/reading reviews of the 5.0 , and talking to certain ford enthusiasts, they make it seem like the GT is so much better than the Camaro and just blows it away.. i don't think its true... could it be?

Also i heard alot that the mustang is so much more reliable than the new camaro? and I've been reading through some of the forums on here and some make it seem like the L99 is so much more different than the ls3? is the afm or whatever all that bad or annoying?

I'm wondering how the visibility would be in the Camaro. In my forth gen its not so great but doesn't bother me, is the 5th gen any worse?Does anyone have an issue with headroom cause in a lot of reviews they always complain about it (I'm about 6'4-6'5)

I'm also 18.... so I'm really worried about car insurance.. do you think i could find a policy under 200 a month??? Just one ticket but its already off my record.

P.s Sorry about all the questions but i thought this would be the best place to ask... i know some are probably going to say alot of it is personal preference, and i know thats why I'm going to test drive one this week.

I'll bite. The 5.0 is a worthy competitor, what I'll say is drive one and compare it yourself. The Mustang is nice, but looks wise there is no comparison. As for the height, I am 6'2 and it's a comfortable fit. You can adjust the seat lower for better spacing, but the pillars don't adjust, and the visibility can be an issue at times. You get used to it though. And for my $.02, get the LS3.

Ofcourse the Mustang guys would say that, DUH, my dads not a cell phone. You want to stand out, right? Mustangs are a dime a dozen, even the latest body style is 7 years old, if you are 18 buy a used one, tons available, affects resale... Camaro is built with 2012 crash rating already so it is heavier, but safer and my insurance went down coming from cobalt ss for that reason. Mustang will also need to meet this standard so it will also get heavier. YOU DON'T CARE WHICH ONE IS FASTER, YOU CANT AFFORD TO RACE IT! Tickets will destroy you. Visibility is what it is, I'm used to it. Head room can be an issue, but I like it, I'm driving a concept car, not a watered down version of one.

Don't be ashamed of it, I have love for both cars. But, the Camaro gets turned heads, the Mustang doesn't. Unless it's a GT500 or Boss, which is a different convo.

I think tickets are like accidents, 39 months.

A used stang will be cheaper, because they depreciate MUCH faster.

Get a price worked up and work the chevy guy over that you are really interested in that 5.0 so you get a good deal on the camaro. And I've owned mustangs and other fords and I never got warantee work done without a fight. The only chevy issues I had were self inflicted and gm fixed them under warrantee anyways. (polish in the exhaust cam sensor on cobalt ss, how did that get there? he asks of man with polished valve cover.... M&M's in heater blower.... MAF afu from too much oil on K&N filter.......) just a few examples, all fixed no issues.

Mustangs more reliable? Lmao, please give me a break. Ask those guys about their MT, Chinese built 6 speeds. Ask them how forgiving Ford is to mods. Ask them about popping #8 cylinder pistons. And finally, ask them how crappy the 2013 redesign looks. Then, you'll be truly informed.

Yeah because if you go to get work done on your Camaro at a Dealership with Headers and a tune you're gonna be welcomed with open arms. Also if any part of your argument is based on looks please don't bother since looks are subjective.

OP: Test drive them both and buy which car makes you feel better when you drive it. That is all you can do...

It's true that looks are objective, I never said they weren't. I was stating my opinion just like everyone else before me. Plus, your counterpoint about mods is fairly weak, and I'll tell you why.

Would you agree that most, if not all, Chevy dealers would still honor your warranty even if you've added a CAI without a tune? I would say that statement is fairly true. Now, Ford on the other hand, is being extremely strict with their warranties and won't even allow such a basic mod. I wasn't talking about headers and a tune (which you were quick to suggest), but rather a completely acceptable mod in the GM circle of dealers (for the most part anyway).

And as far as my claim of their MT 6 speeds, that is based on absolute facts. For the OP's benefit, and yours, I would suggest a google search, forum search, and even a YouTube search.

Now please try to be less combative when responding to someone's opinion, you really sound like a mustang guy.
