Over the counter Exposed CF Hood Insert

There is a possibility and only a possibility that the B92 exposed CF hood option on the ZL1 orders might be delayed. I am thinking about dropping the option instead of waiting for it to come back on line and buying it over the counter and installing it at a later date. This is picture I found and it looks like the insert is bolted on and hopefully will be an easy part to swap out. For those of you going to the Detroit Show can you possible take a better detailed picture of the bottom of the hood and see if the the insert is just held in place with six nuts and bolts or fasteners of some kind.

If the upgrade cost is $600, I'd imagine ordering the part separately would be well over $1000.

I know I'll wait.

But then does that mean that you will have to order the stripe black or will it still be gray

I was told that if you are deleting the exposed insert and still want the stripes they would have to be the low gloss black that come with the painted insert. If you buy the insert later you will either stick with the black stripes or change them at that time. or not order stripes now and have the whole thing done when you buy the exposed insert. that info was from the sales manager at Sport Chevrolet, FWIW. Was just talking with Cheryl and John - and we are, at this time, not able to provide RPO "B92" -- the Exposed Carbon Fiber Hood Insert.

We are working through issues with this option and it will eventually be available both as an orderable option - or as a Service Part (meaning that you can have it installed at a later date)

While we regret that we can't offer it at Start of Production, we take actions such as this in the name of Product Quality which is always our first priority.

Thus, you may want to discuss this with your dealer and remove the option for now.

That really sucks, will it be available at all on the 2012 run or is planned to be fixed for the 2013 run?

Fbodfather, Does this mean that B92 will not be available on any 2012MY ZL1's at all or that they may be available at the end of the 2012MY run?

This is the email exchange I had with my dealer today. Not saying this is how it is, just what I was told. I hope it helps.

An issue has developed with the 2012 Camaro ZL1 optional Exposed Carbon Fiber Weave Hood Insert (RPO: B92) that requires Chevrolet to place a "zero availability" constraint on this option. The constraint will be in place for this week's 2012 ZL1 exclusive Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle (Thursday, January 5 through Tuesday, January 10, 2012).

Your dealership has been identified as one of the dealers receiving 2012 ZL1 allocation during this week's exclusive DOSP cycle. You are requested to immediately review your orders and remove the RPO: B92 from your buildable orders, or submit a 2012 Camaro ZL1 order WITHOUT RPO: B92 (the optional Exposed Carbon Fiber Weave Hood Insert) by Saturday, January 7, 2012.

If you have ordered the optional Dark Gray Roof and Rear Deck Lid Stripe (RPO: DSW) as well, please change the stripe to Black Roof and Rear Deck Lid Stripe (RPO: DSX), or remove the stripe option.

Please understand, if you do not take action, you risk losing your production allocation for this DOSP cycle, or having a pattern order 2012 Camaro ZL1 generated for your dealership.

It is unclear at this time how long this option will remain on constraint. Please monitor the weekly order constraint wire for updates.

We apologize for the inconvenience this unforeseen issue has caused you and your dealership.

Thanks,
Alex

Since it has already been accepted by production control, its parts are already allocated. So as of right now, your order is good as is.
