Attention! Shifter knob loose? I think not!!!!!!

Well, I just bought this 2010 2SS 6 speed about 2 weeks ago. I notice that the shifter knobs was loose. I went and bought a knob with a set screw. Fixed!? Nope when I was taking the boot off I notice it wasn't the knob that was the problem. Yeah the shift rod is in 2 pieces. I wind up taking it to the Chevy dealer as I was picking up my tags today. Taking the shifter apart in the parking lot a sales person and a customer walked up and asked how I liked the car. I said great as I had the shifter in my hand "out of the car". I walked in to the manager and they are replacing it. Free of charge. And I was a nice guy about it. Put it in a bag as I walked into the dealership and went the managers office. Seems IMO they used a hard rubber to connect the 2 pieces to reduce vibration. Well it came apart.

WOW! Thats the first one that ive heard of fail. GM builds them this way to reduce vibration and noise in the cabin. Perfect time to install a good aftermarket shifter like a Hurst Billet Plus.

before you purchased the car, the dealership may have been beating the crap out of your car and were powershifting like gorrillas.
i'd be concerned

Maybe, but you sink into the seats when it's nailed. everything is tight. Short shifter. They are putting a new one in. Then after when winter is over I 'll throw in an aftermarket. With my luck if I had a shifter on hand they most likey would have blammed me for it. But I do have a full warranty and not sweating this. But I think other owners out there need to know this could happen to them.

43K mile here and never felt anything loose in shifter.

How many miles on your car? Like newyorkray said, wonder how this car was handled before. It may have been handled rough. You are the first one I've seen with this problem.

If you purchased the car used, it could have been previous owner trying to remove it improperly or something, many things. I would not think factory defect firstly unless you had it since new.

The car has 31,000 miles on it. I agree that it doesn't sound like a defect. But you never know. And if I said that to the dealer, I might have not got this fixed by them.

Very true....for dealer sake I agree. BUT....here I see it as a reason for trolls and haters to say....."see another crappy part on these cars"
Nothing against you or your post
