Transmission problems
Just bought a brand new 2011 SS. Only had 50 miles on it. Got to around 500 miles won't shift into 3rd or 5th gear. Check engine light came on. Took car to dealer, was told GM was aware of the problem and coming up with a fix. Got the car backed drove home and did it again. Called dealer said bring it in Monday. So I guess I just won't have 3rd and 5th gear all weekend. Was told it was a computer problem. Car shifts fine when the engine is off. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I hope I don't have to use the lemon law on this.

If it's a manual, does a picture of a shift pattern come up on the cluster when this happens? Your car will prevent you from going from 1st to 2nd or 3rd in certain low load low throttle input situations. It took me awhile to get used to this when I first got mine. By holding first gear a little longer you will bypass the point at which the skipshift solenoid engages. As far as I know, the only blocking solenoids on the trans that are controlled by the ecm are reverse, and the solenoid that locks out 2nd and 3rd. I don't think the ecm can lock you out of 5th as there is no solenoid to do so. So to avoid the forced 1 to 4 by the computer, you can change how you drive, or install a slp skip shift eliminator. Hope that helped.

The car is a manual. Tonight it would shift normal than block 2nd 3rd and 5th. I could only use 1st 4th and 6th. The check engine light stays on. I plan on taking to the dealer again on monday. I sure hope they can fix this.

They'll fix it. Don't take the car back if it's not fixed right. Haven't heard of this one...
