Punching out a HF cat

Has anyone ever punched out the inside of a HF cat to make it straight through? If so, how hard was it to do and any suggestions on how to get it out?

I did this with a Honda a few years back. Long screwdriver and hammer. Took all of ten minutes. It breaks apart like glass and comes out in big chunks.

yeah just a screwdriver-prybar and a hammer. make sure it all scrapes out. did this a dozen times probably. it's a free mod to feel a little power gain in a stock vehicle too.

SOLO high flow cats are stainless wound and welded in several loctions. Not sure they will gut that easily.

Thanks guys. Got it out.

A long chisel, a big shop hammer, and about 15 min or so.

How do you ensure all the pieces or remnants are out of the cat??? Will there be any left along the wall of the cat? Thanks

Just looking down in it. Does it really matter if a few pieces are left as long as they're attached? The only danger is a muffler rattle.

Yeah, you can definitely get a good idea of what's left by looking down it. I was more worried about the turbocharger of mine getting damaged somehow if possible. Hopefully any left over pieces would blow out easily out the rear of the exhaust.

You can see right down through the cat. The inside of these were not welded so it spun inside the cat. I took some effort and even though it was only about 15 min it was a long 15 min.

Awe gotcha, that makes sense. Sorry, I thought you had midpipes with high flow cats. I didn't read that you hae long tubes. The JBA's I have are harder to look inside and the inside can't be as easily reached.

Why not just remove the cats completely?
