Dealer Showroom Camaro Today
Yes, I know, this thread is worthless without pictures. I came from the office and had no camera at all. This Saturday is the big party, so will get some then (of course by then, damn near everyone would have seen one in real life…).
Just got back from seeing the Camaro for the very first time. The dealer showroom car came in yesterday (didn’t get the voice-mail, system was down from storms), and shot down there as soon as I heard this morning. Silver V6/Auto with the RS package. I, for the lack of a better word, molested the vehicle in the showroom as soon as the cover came off. My first impression was of speed and sex, but not speedy sex if you know what I mean. Observations: The trunk is good sized for a sport coupe, the opening is ‘smallish’ but fits the design very well. Very solid feel to the back lid, both opening and closing. The seats fit me like a glove, very comfortable. The driver seat can adjust in all ways to extremes. View is ‘compressed’ but not bad as others have implied. I don’t see a problem with it at all. No wheel weights on the brake calipers. Kind of hard to explain the wheels themselves, they were the midnight silver and seemed to pick up on the body color and appear lighter than on the other colors, still looked really good though. Taking in the whole, they complimented the body color flawlessly. You have to really eye-ball the wheels themselves to see the darker tone to them with the silver car as a background. I’d bet on the darker colors, specifically black, those wheels would really pop without looking cheap or too chrome/shiny. The interior I thought was much better in person than in pictures. For some reason the dash looks ‘bare’ in some pictures, but in person it is very well balanced. The materials look good, not cheap or plastic-y at all. The steering wheel is perfectly proportioned and has a very nice feel to it, fit my hands very well. The audio/CiC controls on the wheel were intuitive and easy to reach with my thumbs, without being in the way or worrying about hitting them accidentally. Nice ‘look’ to them and felt very well made too. The radio itself, with the HVAC controls I thought was very well thought-out and designed (still not happy with the after market replacement issue though), and will not take any getting used to at all. Everything within easy reach and intuitive, kudos to the design/engineering team on this. Plenty of head room, even with the seat raised a bit (I’m 6’ 0” @ 250 lbs), legs were very comfortable under the dash and wheel. This one wasn’t a manual, but I don’t think there will be an issue for me working the clutch while shifting. Back seat leg and head room is a totally different story as we’ve all been informed. My youngest kid won’t have a problem back there, but an older/bigger kid or an adult won’t be comfortable for extended trips. With the driver’s seat in an almost all the way back position there was almost no space between the back of the drivers seat and the front of the back seat (almost touching). I did NOT climb back there, since there is NO WAY IN HELL I will be a backseat passenger in my own car, so could care less if people ride back there, or are comfortable. Exterior fit and finish for the vehicle was flawless in all ways. The panel gaps were minimal and even all the way around. The lids, both hood and trunk were solid and perfectly aligned. The paint had no flaws (not that we would expect any on a production vehicle). Over all I am very satisfied with the vehicle. What little things I don’t like about the design are minimal and easily forgiven, or over-looked when compared against all the things I really like about the car. Even standing still this vehicle exudes power and sexiness like no other car I’ve had or seen in real life. GM/Chevy has really hit a home run with this one. Excuse me while I go into the bathroom for a bit…
