Value on 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?
I'm posting this from my phone, so I can't do much research now, but by uncle has a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with all original numbers and paint and everything. It's in mint condition and has 20,000 miles on it...how much do you think he can get for it?
It's green with white top and white interior btw. |

Too bad it's a 1973. If it was a 72 or older, its worth more. Sounds like a nice clean car...it's really only worth what someone will give ya for it, but without seeing it, it's hard to say.

Cutlass was once a best seller for a decade. How things have changed!

Well, as Rallysport mentioned, being a '73 model changes things. I had a 1970 model, 350 and 3 speed auto, fully loaded, green ext, green int, green top with 85,000 miles and all original condition that I just sold to a Swedish collector for $4,300. The miles were obviously much higher than the OP's, but the car was still in nearly mint condition. On the other hand, 1970 was arguably the high point for muscle cars, especially the A-bodies. 1973, much less so. But hopefully this gives you a starting point.

I'd say if the body is mint, no rot, no paint blemishes, no interior blemishes, no engine issues, a spanking clean engine bay, and it starts up on the drop of a hat; I'd say he'd be lucky to get 10K tops for the car.
And what I'm talking about is showroom condition. |

For a '73? It could have been stored in a climate controlled garage with 0.1 miles on the odo and it wouldn't fetch $10K. Cars like that stopped being muscle cars and started becoming old, crappy cars after '72, with a few exceptions (f-bodies, etc.). There's just something undesirable about a big car where safety regulations dictated absurd bumpers and early, crude emissions systems made V8s slower than today's subcompact econoboxes.

Oh I'm not saying that you can't make a beast out of a '73 Cutlass. I've seen some brutally mean 80s era Cutli (?). A relatively light body, RWD, and room for just about any GM V8 is a recipe for success waiting to happen. However, now you're looking at a project car, and you don't pay much for the initial car, as most of your money is going to fixing it up. If you're paying $10K for a car, you're looking at something you intend to be a nice cruiser or show car, not a stripped out drag monster.

No doubt there. But I'm talking about a middle ground. A Cruiser that can do both, where this one wouldn't take much to do it, and still keep it's value as a numbers matching car.
Still, matter at hand.. I wouldn't pay over 8-10K for the vehicle. Also, pics please? |

Yeah.... need a pic. Condition/appearance is everything.
The collonade body style 2-door A-Bodies ('73-'77) do have a following, and amongst those years of Cutlass, a '73 is probably most desireable. It still had the nice looking flush rear bumper -- '74+ got the chrome railroad tie. With 20k miles, IF it's in visually beautiful condition, something close to $10K seems very possible to me. Things like 350 4-barrel (or even better a 455), console and bucket seats, etc. would certainly help. My first car was a '75 Cutlass S 2-door. Blue with white half top, white interior, the swivelling buckets (how many have ever seen those?) and console, and SS II wheels. Neat cars, for their day. |
