In 1863, crazed slave-holders from Columbia burned Lawrence to the ground, raped, pillaged, and executed every local they could find.
In 1865, the University of Kansas opened in a free country. In 1891, KU defeated MU in the first game of their rivalry in the second season of KU football. In 1899, both teams had a combined 19 wins in 10-game seasons. Kansas was Missouri's only loss. In 1868, Kansas was ranked #3 in the BCS for 3 consecutive weeks, the best KU has ever done in the Bowl Championship Series. In 2007, KU has had its best season ever, and it continues momentarily with the next rivalry game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. A victory for either team will guarantee a #1 spot in BCS rankings and a likely spot in the BCS Championship. The Free State-Slave State battle continues, and we all know who's destined to lose.
