Programming Homelink Question

I just installed my Homelink controls (as seen here). But I can't seem to program it. I have followed the directions in the book, but mine doesn't seem to behave as the book would indicate. The LED starts of blinking rapidly as soon as I push the button. I have even followed the steps to delete the programming. Can anyone confirm that the behavior in the video is right or wrong?

Hold the button down for about 7 seconds and when the blinking changes hold down the button on your garage door remote, then it will blink fast again. Once it does test it out, you should be done. I programmed two different remotes into my Homelink and it worked identical both times.

I need to get a garage door opener.. I hate having cool little gadgets that dont get used. But then to use it as a "Garage", I'd have to give up my home gym.. sorry Camaro.. you are still banished to the driveway.

Sometimes the remote method does not work and you will have to set the actually door opener in the garage to complete the setup. Mine was this way. I had to hold a button down on the actual garage door opener until it blinked and that gave me about 20 sec to get back in the car and program the Homelink controls. The second method was listed as an option to install in the 2010 Owners Manual.

Programming the garage door opener in the Camaro was a horrible experience. I did it "correctly" probably 20 times before it finally worked. That said, the range sucks and I pretty much have to be IN the driveway right in front of the door to get it to open. Keep trying, you paid for it, but honestly a remote from Home Depot/Lowes/Walmart is probably as good or better....and much less stressful.

some work on the first try and some after many many tries as stated above. Like someone said, sometimes you have to set it up with the actual opener on the wall (best done with another person while you set it up in the car).

jeepguy_1980, IF you have a newer garage door opener.....you will be reqiured to use the LEARN button on the opener itself, sometimes its under the cover with the lights. Most newer garage door openers have a ROTATING CODE which is why you need to do this section of the set-up. This is what I had to do, and it worked the first time....so according to you profile, you have a 2010 model, in your manual, it starts on page 4-45.....

Hey guys, to tie on this thread with a slightly different question: Is there any way to program the homelink not to open the garage doors when the ignition is off?

No, you'd have to change the wiring on the HomeLink buttons. As they are wired to the battery from the factory.

Thanks - do we know where those wires are located? Not crazy about ever leaving the car outside of the house.

Use the button on the opener itself rather than the remote. Worked nicely first time for me. I used my parents gate remote to program the other two buttons as in and out controls for their community. I love it and the range for mine is awesome, I bet it goes a good 1/8 mile. I hit the button when i enter the circle up the street and the door is full open by them time I get to the driveway.

Unfortunately, that's how mine is now wired. The dome light wiring, which is un-switched, would not work for me. So I used the passenger airbag light power line to power my added homelink. It's annoying that my key has to be in to open/close the garage.
