My Camaro Story

I was looking at two very different cars this weekend, a G8GT and a Tahoe. Went to Chevy and they had an SS on the lot going to an owner, sales guy told me they had a 1LT/RS coming to the lot that night or in the morning. He told me he would call me.

I convinced the wife to go look at it at 10 in the morning. When I told her we were going to look at a camaro she asked to take her home. Upon walking in the dealership with 10 people standing around it staring, I sat in it and loved it. I owned a 98 red camaro. This is victory red. No leather, but I get the car ahead of most people and do not want to wait.

Wife said no way in hell... I told the sales guy I would call him and check in (if the car was sold yet)... It took probably about 6 hours of my best salesmanship, begging, and pleading. She finally agreed after my mother gave her a guilt trip, her mother, and my sisters. And we are both in our late 20's early 30's.

Anyways, deposit down (GMS didnt apply on the dealer car, said I could order it and get GMS). Picking car up tomorrow. Going to have to figure out winter tires and possibly minorly upgrading sound system (I don't have the BA's).

Lucky sob! How come I can't get that lucky...you walk in looking for a Tahoe and end up getting a Camaro?!

Please oh Camaro God's let there be a IOM 2SS with Black or Orange interior and 20" polished wheels just waiting for me to walk in and get it. I'll cancel my 1100 status one in a heartbeat! LOL

Congrats on the car but... he is lying. GMS is eligible on any new GM car except the ZR1. Dealers love to lie and say GM does not allow it, they do. It is up to the dealer to give it to you or not. I had to hunt for a dealer willing to go GMS on the Corvette. Finally I just walked into one and told them the only was I would buy the car is if they gave me GMS and DIDN"T give me any BS about GM not allowing it becasue I know they did. The salesman looked at me like a deer in the headlights for a second then we started the paperwork. MSRP was $45K and some change, out the door for a hair over $36K.

No one should ever get bullied by a dealer. There are GREAT dealers out there. I found one that I am going to order the Camaro from and they are wonderful. I am waiting to see what happens after June... Afraid to sell corvette then GM do something drastic and not have anything...

GMS is available -- HOWEVER -- the dealer does not have to honor it. I think the salesperson was saying "I have this on the floor right now -- and there is a demand for the car -- if you want GMS, I'll take your order -- but I'm holding on to this one."

Taken another way --

.......let's assume that you own a pristine 2002 Camaro 35th LE........

...........there are -- oh -- say -- 8 of them on Ebay -- none of them are pristine -- they have more miles than yours........

Let's say you want $22,000 for your pristine 35th LE -- and the average price wanted on Ebay is -- say -- $18,000 ---

.........would you cave and take $18,000????

See-- it depends on WHICH side of the negotiation you are on --

I can tell you that dealers aren't making much money -- in fact, according to NADA -- most are losing money these days............
