Truck Spilled Cones On Interstate
On Friday, I was driving to visit family in my Camaro. Just as I got outside of town a large truck two cars ahead of me started loosing construction cones. Wind must have lifted the cones out of the bed. So there are 5-6 3ft high cones bouncing arcross the interstate and everyone is slowing down. I slammed on my brakes and could feel the ABS kick in. I was also trried to avoid the cones by moving over to the shoulder but it didn't help. I ended up hitting a cone dead on and ran over the cone completely. Once I got out of the car I saw my bumber was cracked and scratched. The lower grill also popped out. Of course the truck kept driving away so I'll have to pay for the repair.
You never know what will happen when you're driving. |

It's really unfortunate that in situations like that you can't get the driver's license plate and make them responsible for paying it.

Always drive with a gigantic buffer space in front of your car so you can easily avoid the debris or pull over.

That really does suck, one time a couple of weeks after I got my camaro I was behind some station wagon that had the rack on the top and the person either forgot their boots were kinda wedged in there or didn't care but the boots eventually fell off and came flying at me, luckily they were small enough and I had enough distance I was able to dodge both of them without any damage done to my car.

I thought about chasing the truck down but I was pretty sure I incurred damage and needed to check that first. There was a state trooper stopped on the other side of the road but he didn't see the truck.

Yes, I hope you got the license number. They are liable for anything coming out of their vehicle as it must be secured while on the highway. My wife had a part of a brick crease her hood and put a hell of a break in her windshield from a concrete worker that did not clean off his flat bed before driving on the highway. His insurance company finally agreed to pay for it but they tried to be tough about it. Did not work.

That's a state vehicle, and can be tracked due to time of incident and location. Find out who it was and get them to pay repairs. They also have to claim to the state the loss of every cone they lost in the incident. Shouldn't be too hard to track with the state DOT.

Ill back a call to the state office tomorrow. It would save paying my deductable. I don't know for sure if it was a dot vehicle but the call is worth a shot.
