Sodim filled valves

On a brand new GM head, i found a crack at the end of the valve.

Surely they have to fill and cap these, but im wondering if this is normal.

obviously if this valve drops, im going to be knocking on someones door for a new engine.

I mean it probably won't ever drop but IMO there's that what if factor. Like I'd beat myself ragged if I knew I could have prevented something like that simply by switching the part before hand.

I pulled all of the springs off of both heads. all of the exhaust (sodium filled) have either a line, or gap to some extent on them, but the one is way huge in comparison to the others. i emailed jegs, and thier guy said have to replace the valve. i was looking at it, and its not even lapped in, which ive never seen before. it has ground seats, and ground valve angles. It seems to seat nice though. i must just be used to old junky stuff.

Im going to go to the local chevy stealership tomorrow to see what they say.

If you didn't buy the heads from the "stealership" they may not help you. What you are seeing couldn't lead to a valve drop. The end of the valve is more like a "T" shaped plug. The only forces that exact part will see is pressure from the rocker arm to open the valve. You can either run it as is or send the complete head back to Jegs.
