Update to vandals strike again!

Heres the original post
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229616

Ins man just left...He believes the hood needs to be repainted, fender & side mirror need to be replaced :( My question is, I believe these can be fixed wo a total repaint/replace other then the side mirror. Should I just go ahead and have then repaint/replace everything or should I ask the shop if they can just fix the scrtaches wo replacement? Im concerned about non oem paint even tho the oem paint sux, lol

wwyd?

Without seeing pictures of the damage, it is hard to say. I will tell you that I bought Dr. Colorchip and although it has mixed reviews it worked great for our car. Someone backed into my door in a parking lot with something metal in their pocket and gouged the paint 1 inch long to the metal.

I have applied it 6 times, but now you cannot even see the scratch anymore. It is remarkable.

if insurance is going to pay for it, replace all of it with factory parts.

then find those little bast-tards, give the bill to their patents along with a copy of the video, tell them you're pressing charges, and to have a good day.

A good body shop should be able to fix it to look as new....

wrong rock story. she doesn't have a video.

but i would get it all repainted. I don't trust a shop to try and cover scratches evenly/non noticeably.

I've seen a lot of paint 'matches' that look perfect when it comes out of the shop, but then the paints fade differently and a year or two later the repainted sections stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe a good shop can do it right but in my experience it gets messed up more often than not. Good luck, what ever you decide.

Thanks...me too. I hope the punks who did it start talking so I find out who it was. The apt complex knows and we are telling the neighbors. Lots of nice cars around here. I expect them to strike again but it wont be on my Camaro ever again.

This is why we live in the country far away from everyone! When my wife and I first got married we lived in an Apt in the city and that was the first and only time someone ever broke into my vehicle (they stole about $2500 worth of car audio, hey I was young at the time ok, and no I did not ride around the Apt complex with the bass bumping advertising what I had) In the end, some people just have no respect for others property. Hopefully you get it all taken care of with the Ins. company.

Seems it doesnt matter you live. I grew up in a nice neighborhood and my brothers '69 Z28 Camaro was egged and meloned (had whole full size watermelons thrown at it), & all his lugnuts loosened and his wheels almost fell off driving down the road.

When I lived in my first house, my Jeep was broken into and they got about 2k worth of stuff. This is my 2nd Camaro to be vandalized..People have zero respect. It scares me on what the future holds.

So sorry to hear that you car has been damaged. I'm sure where ever you take it they will make it look like it never happened.

Is it just our Camaros or are the other muscle cars experiencing the same problems, mustang, challengers?

Been following your post and sorry your Camaro was damaged. Appears whatever you decide, paint is going to be required. You are going to pay your deductable regardless.
Over the years on many cars I had minor paint damage repaired by insurance. Quality insurance companies now warrent paint for life if you have paint repairs done at one of their 'suggested' shops. I have had the same insurance company for decades but this lifetime warrenty was not always offered.
Recently I had a minor rear bumper paint chip fixed when a car at low speed slide on ice and bumped me. $650 to remove bumper and repaint. My State Farm warrented repairs for as long as I own the Camaro, body shop approved by State Farm also warrents repairs for life. Your paint warrenty should be your deciding factor.
Back in 1998 I had a 1996 Sebring LXI coupe. Got bumped on the rear. Bumper repainted but warrenty was only for 36 months. No joke, on month 37 rear bumper paint started to flake. Previously when the Sebring was only 3 months old, hit some kind of chemical on the road that damaged paint, insurance covered it less deductable, 3 years later paint started to flake. Bottom line years later after repair warrenties expired, cost me $1,200 out of pocket to repaint flaking paint panels.
My suggestion to you is get both a lifetime warrenty from your insurance company and a lifetime warrenty from the body shop that repairs your Camaro. I have had many cars over 45 years repainted due to minor damage. Get a lifetime warrenty on any paint repairs to your Camaro and don't settle for anything less than a lifetime warrenty.

My worry would not be the repair, but the repair holding up better than the factory paint. Most if not all will not step foot into that territory because they know their side is done well but the old paint won't hold up compared to it. All they will cover is what they touched, the rest could inevitably fade and they wouldn't repaint it for you to match. I'm hoping for the best for you Angie, and I actually believe your paint is new enough where if you do see any difference ever, it won't be for several years, and you will likely want your car repainted by then anyways if it were all factory paint.
