Just rented a Camaro
Hi all.
I don't know if anyone remembers my thread from a few months back about luggage. I was going with my wife to Florida in June. Well the decision was that since we couldn't quite figurenout what luggage would fit in the trunk and thencostmwas too high we'd just rent a Full Size (Impala, Galant, etc). So that's what we ordered. When we landed on the fourth and got to Avis my wife immidiatelymasked what an upgrade would be. I was shocked since she was the one that had decided the car (the deal was that I got to decide loads of other things and she picked the car). The lady at Avis and my wife discussed various options and she told us then what the upgrade costs would be to the V6 stang and the V6 Camaro convertibles. Basically the Camaro was too expensive and we've already tried the Mustang last year. Not a bad car but... So I take a shot in the dark... "and what would the upgrade cost be for us as returning customers?". The lady looked at me and said she'd ask the manager. 15 minutes later she came back and basically said the manager said that since we were returning customers and since we wanted the car for over 3 weeks (4th-27th of June) they'd drop the price on the Camaro to the Mustang price. My wife told me that I could decide so we took it. She said great, she just needs the manager's approval and code. She she went to get him. 3minutes later they both come out, she with a frown and him on the phone with someone... Telling them that that car was supposed to be ready and that he has two customers waiting for it... He hangs up, wishes us a nice vacation and leaves after inputting something on the computer. The lady however is still wearing that frown so I get a bit uneasy.. Maybe we won't get the car after all... So close... So I ask if there's a problem, she pauses what she's doing, looks up and says I'll be happy with this car. Displaying the rental agreement to me is for a Black Camaro SS Convertible! My wife just rolled her eyes at me and laughed. So here we are, three weeks, two days with an SS .Today me and my wife were at a Subway and there was a red V6 vert parked outside. I parked next to him and went inside. Lots of different shops by this parking lot so what are the odds the guy with that car is in the subway. Seemed he was and he and his daughter were just done before us. When I looked at our car through the window he was standing looking at it and then got into his. I left Subway just before he he drove off and he saw it was "my" Camaro so he stopped, looked at me and nodded. I gave him a thumbs up and he drove off. That's when I really felt this was a family I wanted to be part of. Maybe in a year or two I'll get my own. It IS a sweet ride. |

Great choice on your Saab, and a great choice on your future next car, hopefully sooner than later!

When I was in Miami in April, there were a lot of Camrao SS 'verts in the rental garage. Mostly yellow and red. Those poor Camaros must get the shit beat out of them. I sure wouldn't want one after a rental company had them.

I'm blown away each time I look down at it from my hotel room. I just have to smile. The wife thinks I'm being silly but you guys know what I'm talking about right?
And each time I turn the key and hear that rumble... Yeah. Granted, I wish it was a bit more but once I get my own it's not that expensive to fix right? So still 10 more days to go and I love it every day. Quote:
It's easy to say the power but it's not the whole truth. I've driven cars with way less power that handle way worse when floored. Like my current SAAB, it's no speed deamon, it's got 210hp but I have to hold on to the wheel at WOT. I can do that with one hand without blinking in the Camaro and it's got twice the amount of power. I have also driven other cars with less power that handled worse. My sister's Porsche 911 Carrera 4 with 305hp handled way worse and people go all ooh aah about that. I like alot more than I dislike about the Camaro, that much I can say. What sticks out to me is that I like the dash and instrumentation but the plastic in front of the passenger is just terrible. No, I don't mean the material itself, it's as if it's molded completely without thought and is just plain ugly. Oh yes, and also. Like: one handle to secure the top in the middle vs 2 on the sides on the stang. Dislike: i twist the handle and take the top down, windows go down. Great, but when I press to get it back up the windows stay down and I manually have to take them up again. I believe the mustang put the windows back up. Of course there may be a trick I don't know about. I didn't get the instruction manual. Stefan |
