I understand GM has a "business" to run but to give low end vin's to a damn rental car place and screw over pre-orders

I don't know, won't this make member's low vin cars that more rare? Think of the mileage and wear and tear on a rental. Seems like someone who gets a low vin car now and takes care of it will have an even rarer gem down the line.

And if it helps GM keep its head above water, well, we just gotta live with things like this.

The best (or worst) part about this is that Avis likely paid less for that Camaro than most people who pre-ordered.

This is a smack in the face - I was at the unveiling of the concept in '06, and the 250 people at the event all said the same thing: DO NOT GIVE IT TO RENTAL CAR FLEETS! DO NOT MAKE A MUSTANG OUT OF IT BY BASTARDIZING IT OUT AS A LOWLY RENTAL CAR! This was stated to management at the Camaro unveil and the party the night before. I know that I said it to anyone who would listen. Did not happen. Now, I know you need to sell product GM, I am not an idiot. What you did wrong here is ignore the 14,000 people who put faith and money on the line for you. THEY should have their cars LONG before you start turning them loose on the uncaring public at an Avis rental counter, even if it is being marketed as a PREMIUM rental.

Yea it's a mistake to put them in a rental fleet. And before pre orders where filled IMO.

Since I am buying used i'll really have to triple cheeck to make sure they are NOT from the Avis fleet.

This will damage the used values when Avis dumps then on the market.

There is an upside of course. Lot cheaper cars to buy if someone wants to clean up all the cig smoke, dog hair, puke and various body fluids from the interior.

And then guess on what kinds of mis adventures the powertrain was subject too.

It really is a bunch of bs that i've been to three different states to see the Camaro, ordered it, and am still waiting, but Avis has theirs. Its frustrating. And before all the "we're lucky to have the car" talk starts, last time I checked, the definition of lucky didn't include paying a company $35K. I'm not even in the market for a new car, but I'm still going to give my hard earned money to a company that is making a car they will be profitable on. Not really my definition of lucky.

Aye, I changed camps after a while I am on the "fill the pre orders" side of the fence now.
