Who can we trust?

When I have a question about some random thing, one way I could look for answers would be to do a Google search: I could ask my question, then see what Yahoo!, Ask!, Googleanswers, wikianswers, whatever has in response. These are answered by any ol' Joe with an electronic device and a minimal ability to press keys. Most of the answers are along the lines of, "I don't know." "Good question." "I'm not sure, but my friend told me..."
Even the answers that are "answers," generally have 100 different answers to a question. Ask, "Is it okay to substitute Kool-Aid for motor oil if I am running low?" and the answers will run from, "Of course!" to "Kool-Aid is manufactured by Penzoil... my uncle works there, so I know" to "Yes, it is the same substance" ... and somewhere in there, somebody will answer, "I don't think it's usually done," which is as close as you will ever get to good advice on there.
Anyway, on Camaro5, there are a lot of knowledgable people... many are experts, many are engineers with PhDs in "Bitchin' Camaro," and lots of people have very good intel based on experience.
However... when questions are asked on here, there are still quite a variety of answers... lots of "I don't knows," and "I was wondering that too..." and a lot of conflicting answers.
I'm curious to know: Which posters on here DO speak gospel? When a question is asked, who can we KNOW is telling us good info? Who's got the best credit rating on here... who's word is worthy of setting in stone?

My vote goes to Fbodfather. But...I'm not sure I would set anyone's word in stone. We all make mistakes and most problems have more than one solution. Think of it as giving you options. Not a bad thing.

I want to think no one wants to give bad advice. I do trust a lot of people on here due to the fact no one has anything to gain or loose from saying one way or another. Like a body shop or garage looking to make money off of your confusion.

Welcome to the internet and the land of misinformation.

"Trust, but verify" is a motto some people live by. I prefer to eliminate the first two words from that equation.

I don't often take one person's perspective as gospel. When I see a common trend developing among multiple knowledge parties, add in a little common sense and a touch of my own research from other sources, I usually draw my conclusions from the results of all that.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I don't think I trust anyone on the internet...it's not distrust, it's that people on the internet aren't instantly worthy of trust, so everyone pretty much starts with 0 and has to earn trust, if that makes any sense.

On here, the GM folks (Fbodfather and a few others) are probably going to have the most relevant information about the car itself and upcoming stuff. But...to that point...stuff leaks, there's speculation, so we may have ideas or get info that they're not quite ready to announce yet, or only has a half-truth to it. Scott tells us the truth when it's time to know. And when he says "keep the faith" --you better do that. I've followed his posts for years, and when he says that, that is what you do.

Everything else....verify. Observing trends is good. Opinion is readily available everywhere on the internet and is often presented as fact. The internet requires your utmost in critical thinking skill.

Why should I believe you guys?!?!?

Kidding of course... good intel. Thank you! Yes, everything needs to be viewed from many different perspectives, info gathered from many different sources.

I do love the commercial on TV... can't even remember the product being pitched, but I think it's car insurance. The girl on there says, "Whatever they say in the Internet is true, because I read that they're not allowed to put things on there unless they are true!"

Then, her blind date approaches... a guy she "met on the Internet." She mentions that he's a French male supermodel. As he approaches, we see that he's a dumpy ol' cornfed bumpkin, with less than honorable intentions. He says, "UH... Bone Joor... heh heh..." and stolls off with his date.

Pretty funny stuff, says I!

I have found when you ask a question on here you will get varied answers. Individuals usually give answers based on personal knowledge. I discount any answer that starts " I have a friend..." or," my Brother in law says..." etc. then if a vendor answers is he being truthful or trying to just sell his product, those I usually discount also. So in other words about 60 to 80% of advice you get is worthless. The rest is something you just have to try yourself to be sure. My answers are usually based on my experience with my own vehicles over the last 43 years. All I know as fact is what I have experienced, otherwise I just try it if it sounds logical to me.

After a while, you realize who knows what they're talking about.

I totally feel you about the different answers to the same question. Read any thread that asks about what the TC button does or how launch control works or even that friggen alarm thread. Sometimes I wonder if some of these people even own Camaros

REALLY?

I knew more about my car than anyone at the dealership! They might know general mechanics, but sure gonna do my research and watch their every step. One local car owner here didn't know his tires couldnt be rotated, and neither did the dealership! :(
