POWER STEERING BECOMES STIFF AFTER 100KM+ RUN

On my way to work I accelerated my car 0-100km/h I red lined in 2nd = after i braked and tried to do a U turn my steering wheel seized up it was extremely hard to turn. I parked, shut off the engine and restarted my car in about a half an hour still was stiff. I do not know what is going on with my car. It was about 3 degrees celsius on my way to work, warmed it up about 5 minutes before driving. Please let me know if this has happend to you. Someone have any idea of what is or could be the problem?

I only know of two things that can cause this could be more that i don't know but you either blew the water pump or your power steering is empty/leaking.

I checked the power steering fluid, it was pretty low but after topping it up the steering was still stiff.

I remember on some other threads v6 and v8 model s, that this car power steering pump has failed if people do some hard turns, while what you explained does not sound like you beat on it, maybe becuase it was cold it was just one of those things shit happens,. sorry

Thanks for the reply Right after work I took it to GM dealership where I bought it they took it in they don't know how long it will take to get fixed till then they gave me a Chevy Cruz I'm lucky I did not install my headers or my exhaust I had to change my K and N intake to OEM intake before I brought it to the garage Good thing that it's a brand-new car and It can still be on the warranty

Neither CAI or Headers would affect anything to do with the power steering you would've been fine either way.

This is true but there are a lot dealerships that will try to weasel themselves out of warranty work so its better to take the safe route

Agreed i don't know about your area but i've dealt with a few weaselships but i've found a few that love seeing what you've done to your car and helping you to. Guess you just gotta play battleship with the hit or miss on those.

For anybody that is curious on what was wrong with the vehicle, dealership called me back regarding the issue. They said that the power steering fuel pump had to be replaced; it was covered under warranty and would be arriving tommorow. The dealership is unsure what time the part will arrive or what time the vehicle will be serviced so it looks like am taking the rental for friday night on GM's expense.

This is exactly why I changed the intake back, I couldn't take a chance. It was a pain driving it there. Making so many wide turns.

I checked my vehicle history at the dealer apparently mine was leaking power steering fluid around 15k.
