Cool vid, but why do they call it the Autobahn? Got me confused with the real German Autobahn, sorry but I traveled the real Autobahn and it ain't like that either.

Looking at the rims I am glad I upgraded to the 19" polished.

Why what's wrong with them? They look great

LS is a way to get into the car at a better price. Why rain on someone elses parade?

It's an LT, not an LS. Those wheels are the standard LT 18" wheels. The LS only gets the black steelies. And this car has fog lights - LT. You know what sticklers we are here.

Those are base 1LT wheels... so I don't this actually is an LS (the LS has the heritage steel wheels), I'm pretty sure of this...

EDIT: djm96z28 beat me to it. Thanks

Thanks for the invite!

If the video label is incorrect I will fix it. It is not my car so I am unsure...

My personal car is a C6 Z06 so you can be sure I would want the SS with all the go fast, corner fast, stop fast goodies! Even this base level Camaro received a lot of attention and thumbs up where ever I drove it (even more than for my Vette).

My track impressions:

Tires were completely wrong. Too tall a profile, all season style, and hard compound. Even with all the noise they didn't wear much...

Brakes are fine until they got hot, then fad was a problem. Once cooled off they returned to normal.

Suspension too soft.

Despite these issues it was a TON OF FUN to drive! The suspension would take a set nicely and carve through a corner well. One advantage of the softer suspension was the ability to drive on the curbs and off/back on the track with no drama. You can see this a bunch of places in the video...

What I would do:

Start with a SS!

Call Pfadt Race Engineering (they are highly regarded in the Corvette performance community and they are a completely honest familty run business).

They have already built one of their sway bar sets and they are in testing. I believe they also have shocks about ready.

Lower the car, adjust the suspension with more negative camber and get some 20" R compound tires mounted.

Go drive the STINK out of it!

Dean

BTW this Autobahn is a private country club race track outside of Chicago...

Yeah, it's definitely an LT model. Fog lamps and upgraded wheels.

Cool video though.

That was me.

One comment I left out was about the transmission. It worked well enough and the paddle shifters made it easy to control. The problem is too big a jump from 2nd to 3rd gear to keep the rear end sliding. The car went around corners best when I got the rear end far enough out so I could floor the throttle without the front end starting to push. A dirfferent trany with more gears would be better if you like going to the track. It worked fine on the streets.

Kentz06...Sir, I actually got more out of your short review than any others I've read. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. By the way, when you get your hands on an SS, we'd love to hear your thoughts as well.
