Would 20x8 wheels look silly on an SS? Will

Hey guys,

I bought my SS used (the deal was too good to pass up) but the previous owner did WORK scratching up the front rims . I want to get snow tires anyway and was thinking about just buying two 20x8 factory rims, putting my current front tires on them, storing my current rear rims/tires, and putting snow tires on the scratched 20x8 front rims to put in the rear just for winter. Then come spring I would have 4 factory non-scratched rims (if all goes well) all with summer tires. I'm just wondering if anyone has a picture/would think 245 tires would look silly on an SS rear, especially since the rear fenders are so big? And is 245 even wide enough for snow tires to be effective?

Thanks so much

My STi goes anywhere in the worst conditions in 225s so you'll be good in the width department. Ever thought of doing 20x9 on all four?

I might go with buying 20x9's for the front, but even so I would have the current scratched 20x8's on the rear for winter so I was just wondering about the look/function of that. STI's are badass cars but I think the 4wd is the difference, you could probably have rubberband sized tires on it and get more traction than an SS in the winter

Yes and no, AWD helps, but with my slick on there is zero grip when the streets are just damp. I put most of the grip down to Blizzaks, can't go wrong with those. I've heard that the Camaro is surprisingly good in bad weather with the right setup too.

def want same tires (compund) or all 4 corners. Lots of people up here crash and it's often associated to running only studs up front on FWD cars. You'll want control on both ends of the car not just the driving wheel.

Also, for snow (like mud) you should actually run a more narrow tire. It helps increase the lbs per sq/in on the tire and cut thru the snow easier getting the tire down to ground improving traction. The wider the tires the more it "floats" and the less traction you'll have. Narrow may not look cool but it will improve performance in the snow.

This is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for, thanks so much. Do you have a good snow tire you can recommend? After some research I'm looking at the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow's or else the Blizzak's. I can't imagine having a camaro through winters in AK, I thought the Pocono mountains in PA were bad enough...

Blizzak has been rated the #1 tire for so many years in a row that they have just started giving Beidgestone the award a year ahead

I use P235/55R19 blizzaks dm-v1 on all 4s for winter, the wheels do look kinda skinny from the back, but it works and have no problems getting around at all an thats what matters. I drive carefully, and safe, and yet im often passing people in my SS in bad weather/snow. I come from driving a WRX for 6 years and trucks before that. Just gotta watch, snow tires will spin and burn off easy lol I just keep my car up in gears and power low.
