Could a Z28 be more powerful than a ZL1?
Just read an article that GM has trademarked the Z28 and that there is speculation that it could be more powerful than the ZL1. What do you think? I hope now. Either way...I'm keeping my ZL1.

No...
Z/28 needs to be naturally aspirated. Like the Z06. See my Camaro / Corvette lineup comparo below. Camaro / Corvette SS / Base 1LE / Grand Sport Z/28 / Z06 ZL1 / ZR1 Now, could a Z/28 be faster on a road course with a bunch of turns and short straightaways (not many long straights), yes, due to the weight being a good bit less than the ZL1. But faster in a straight line, or a race track with some long straights? No. |

The ZL1 should remain the Top Camaro as its always been. The Z28 should be worked in on the Gen 6, just to satisfy all the people that want to see the name revived.

1) Those that want a BADGE, be it Z28, or Z/28 2) The "true believers" who want a Z/28 fashioned after a Gen-1 Camaro (as the current one is somewhat faithful to, appearance-wise) that bears genuine naturally-aspirated abilities well beyond a mere SS, or even a current 1LE. The parts exist. The "recipe" exists. The "menu" has a defined place, price-wise. The "chef" awaits an order. More powerful? No. Very capable? Yes, very. |

No, the Z should be the canyon cutter it was. Not the Alpha dog.

None of us want just a badge. Too many younger car guys have seen just emblems and badges carelessly placed on cars over the past 3 decades for marketing purposes only. Scott has assured us that will not happen again with the Z/28. The fast and loose useage of the Z/28 moniker isn't going to happen. Heck, we can live with a 1LE nameplate, badge, or emblem (even badgeless like Lowdown suggests if need be) if they would only put the LS7 in the current 1LE setup. The ZL1 will remain, as long as it is built, the top 'o the line ship. Z/28 will follow suit. Z/28 will live longer than the ZL1 name. It's storied, it's legendary, and it's the face of Camaro. I'm just an OG....., and that's my O2.

Who has proof that there is going to be a new Z28? Trademarking the name is in no way an indicator of a future Z28 Camaro. It simply GM gives more latitude with the brand. Nothing more, nothing less.

If there is a Z28, it will have a high reving NA engine like the current Z06.

The Z28 would really just be a 1le with an LS7 in it.
without new engine choices you would have to put the LS9 in to trump it HP wise. I would love to see what a 1le with an LS7 would do. I bet it would come close to ZL1 on the track. with its lower gearing it may do similar in a strait line as well. I loved the powere of my Z06 that motor just worked well IMO.

In my opinion if the Z28 materializes, it will have the 327 engine from the COPO De-tuned, high RPM small block just like the original............ JRJ

GM has already stated many times that the ZL1 will be the top dog.
