WSJ on the end of cars.

I thought this was a pretty interesting article, and it really covers the nostalgia and how the automobile industry has changed, quite possibly for the worse.

Tear, tear.

I think we on this forum (and other muscle car fans) are doing our part to help stem the bleeding but we are going to need the help of our econobox driving brethren to make this work. One day they'll realize that driving isn't just a method of getting from one place to another. Hopefully it won't be too late.

Come Heck or Highwater, there will always be a muscle car in my garage. For me driving is not just transportation although I have a truck for my everyday driver.

For me and a lot of other Americans, we have a love affair with our cars that will never end, never. Our cars in many ways are "Recreational" vehicles from which we derive much pleasure caring for them and cruising the roads.

Some people have passion for Boats, Bikes, Antique Aircraft (I fit this category as well) but the one thing we all share in common is passion.

No one will ever be able to legislate away our passion and even if they quit making muscle cars we will continue to care for them and become Stewards of a Legacy.

Heck look how long the Cubans have been driving their 50's model cars, if they can make them last 50 years so can we. Hey my 1951 Cessna 140 is still flying at age 58.

If you have no passion in your life you may as well hang it up.

I think aircraft and maybe boats are another monster all together. As a pilot I'm sure you know how much work goes into annuals, 100 hour inspections, and even engine overhauls. You can't pull over in the sky.. hence why it's not uncommon to still see DC3s flying with turbo conversions over the Congo.

Cars, however.. are rarely taken care of as well as aircraft. Sucks.. It's probably how Cubans keep driving 57 bel-airs for so long. My hope is to do the same with my training to get the AP on an old Skylark or other A body.

51' 140? We still fly a restored barn rat Super Cub, slapped some floats on it and use it for sea rating training. Sexy airplane.. too bad it's only a 2 seater.

Roger that, I have restored three of these..............This is the last one I did from a trailer full of pieces. That engine is a Continental O-470-11 213 HP. Basically same engine you normally see in the C-180 and C-182. The plane is a Vietnam ERA O-1 Bird Dog.
