Positive Dealership Story

Had a minor fender bender (hit from behind) and had to have my whole rear bumper replaced. I did have to take the car back because one of the back up lights wasn't working. (easy enough to miss in the daytime and if you're not backing up) Between getting the car back the first time, and bringing it back to replace the bulb, my check engine light came on and it was the dreaded p0449, I've read about on this forum. Yes it IS a $500.00 job to replace the evap canister because you have to drop the exhaust and the gas tank to get at it.
Well my body shop advisor had the service department do the job for free and I didn't even have to argue with them! My car is 7000 miles beyond the warranty. Per my request, they even replaced both back up light bulbs, as this is also a significant job having to remove the bumper to get at them. Don't know what Chevy was thinking with the design of the evap canister and the back up light bulbs, but it's good to know at least one dealership had the integrity to help me out with it. The repair and paint was also flawless. Thank you Ferman Chevy, Tarpon Springs, Fl if I'm allowed to say so. Bob

Cool

How many miles do you have? (thought emissions were covered beyond bumper to bumper... 5/50)

I have 43,400 mi. As far as emissions, only the catalytic converter is covered beyond the 3yr/36000 mi. bumper to bumper. And believe me, I HAVE had my share of dealer horror stories elsewhere. Mainly with Chrysler. Bob

Just curious were you running with a catch-can?....I believe one of the benefits of having one is it will prolong the life of the catalytic converter and the rest of the emissions parts....

Emissions warranty only covers cats and ECM. Vent solenoid not covered by Emissions or Powertrain unless an extended warranty policy exists.

The exhaust does have to be removed and cradle lowered some (but not removed) in order for this part to be changed. Cradle has location pins on the rear mounts to put it right back where it was, any misalignment issues will be insignificant. 11-12's the vent solenoid design was changed, just the solenoid can be replaced, not whole canister. I can get them out on the later models without touching a bolt on the rear cradle or exhaust, maybe I shouldn't be saying this here....lol.

Glad to see kudos for a dealership for a change!

No catch can - been giving one some thought, though. I wish someone actually made one specifically for the 2010 Camaro that was simple to install and where you don't have to "rig" things together. Bob
