Making a Catch Can Bracket
While visiting the vendor section at the LSX Shootout, I got to the Moroso product concession stand.
I wanted a Catch Can but the one on display was larger than I really wanted. He showed me a smaller one in the catalog that I liked but he was out of them. I said no thanks and started to walk away, he stopped me and said he would make me a deal on the one they had in stock. I asked what deal, he said $125. I said I really didn’t want that one but for a hundred buck I would take it. Why I did that I couldn’t tell you. Maybe he played me into it. But a deal is a deal. When I got home I tried to find a place to put it in the engine bay, but I couldn’t find a good place to mount it with the bracket supplied. That was three months ago. I have been looking for a bracket ever since. I could not find anywhere a bracket that would work. The only way is to make my own. Below is what I come up with. First I got a piece of 1/8” Aluminum plate. I got it from a local sheet metal fabrication shop; it was a drop they threw in the scrap bin. I used a hole saw for the holes and a saber saw for the rest. A scroll blade made to cut wood will cut the aluminum plate like slicing butter. Below are the results. I had to remove the Belt Tensioner from the water pump to mount the bracket. ![]() The Moroso Catch can bracket has a horizontal bolt hole pattern. The bracket can be flopped to mount vertical as shown below, but you will have to move the bottom large hole to match the back of the belt tensioner. The hole size is 2-3/8 diameter. The clearance is needed for the back of the belt tensioner. ![]() By the time I got the bracket right I had so many layout marks scribed on the plate I had no choice but to paint it. I may later remove the bracket and do some trimming on the material, removing some of the bulk without weakening the bracket. Or just make a new one. ![]() Below are all finished parts, except for the plumbing that I will need to research. Looks nice.
Do yourself a favor though and pick up a clear glass inline fuel filter from any autoparts store and install between the can and your intake manifold and see how much oil passes through the can. |

I have read however that check valves will limit the flow but not sure if it will collect the oil if using check valves. One poster said he only had a couple of tablespoons of oil after six months of use using the check valves.
