Dealership STILL at it

Went to Courtesy Chevy in San Diego today, while on vacation. Just happened that they were across the street from my hotel. Same people own Courtesy in San Diego and in Phoenix, or so they say. I wanted some touch up paint, and saw a new Camaro LT ragtop. Took a look, and saw a $41,000 asking price, for a v6. Funny thing. The MSRP was removed. Unless they changed the law, that is illegal. Didn't see any MSRP's on the other cars on the lot either, just the add on stickers. Same clowns who a few weeks ago tried to claim that the MSRP was the invoice price. (That was the Phoenix branch, though). And some dealers wonder why people call dealers every name in the book.

It's 98 per cent of car dealers that give the others a bad name.

I have had a lot of cars from many dealers over the years. Plymouth,Dodge, Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, Olds, Simca, Subaru, Jeep, Mazda, Kia, Pontiac, Ford and Chevy. Of all these makes, one brand consistently shows up with the worst dealers to go to. Chevy. What crtiteria did GM use in deciding which dealers to keep?

Those are the goons that were trying to sell a 1LT/RS coupe for $35k.

There's a sucker born every minute though

I'm all for being a businessman and taking every opportunity but sometimes you got to realize you're just being a dick marking it up that high I guess supply and demand though, if people are buying enough of them, why not?

I've purchased from Chevy, Cadillac, Ford, Chrysler/Dodge and Mazda. I wouldn't say any one is "worse" than the other. They are equally (let's just say), the "same".

Is it dishonest, or unscrupulous for a dealer to mark up a vehicle WAY above MSRP, knowing that for some people, money is no object (athletes, entertainers, etc.)? Some people will pay whatever to get it.

Is it dishonest to charge a higher interest rate than a person actually qualified for, but that person didn't do their homework and didn't realize they should have gotten a better rate? (It happened to a friend of mine. No big deal. He refinanced with a bank).

How about dealerships that offer extended warranties at 3X what they sell for straight from the manufacturer's website?

Every company needs to turn a profit. Maybe, as consumers, we are out of line to expect that a dealership makes a reasonable profit, instead of a gouging, exorbitant, over the top RIPOFF profit.

Yeah. It's we consumers that have it all wrong.

And, this is just the front-end. What happens in Service is another story, as we're reading in other threads........

I would say it is dishonest and illegal to remove the MSRP from the window and hide it. Only showing the dealer prepared addendum sticker.

If you want to know what goes on at some dealerships go to dealerrater.com. Check out the lowest rated dealers in your area for an education. In my area some salesmen "lose" the keys of a trade in and will not return them.
