Power steering pump blew up?!

So I was driving during a terrible snow storm with the roads being icy and slippery and I could smell an odd chemical smell in the cabin and I lost all control of my steering while in a traffic circle , luckily there were no cars around me and I didn't get into an accident.

I regained control and it became so hard and stiff (almost undrivable) and I just barely made it home. The steering is so rough and difficult.

I am not sure if this is going to be expensive to replace or to fix. Is this going to be covered in dealer warranty or am I going to have to shell out a lot of $$$? The car has 35,000 km on it but I bought it used in another town just outside of the city I am now living at. Would any dealer provide the warranty and service?

Have you read the warranty manual in the glove box?

Sounds like when people do donuts and allow the wheels to go all the way one direction or the other. The pump is under a great deal of stress and easily fail. You're pretty far under the 36k mileage mark, so I don't see why warranty wouldn't cover the repair.

If you're within your bumper to bumper you should be good.

The service records show that the power steering pump was replaced last year at this time, I wasn't doing "donuts" I was ****ing driving responsibly.

I don't think the pumps can within stand the Canadian winters to well.

I wasn't implying you were doing donuts. From your description of what happened, losing control in a round-a-bout, I would assume your wheels went hard over one way or the other. This is similar, as far as the wheels and steering pump are concerned, to someone doing donuts. The force the steering pump is enduring is many times far greater than it can handle. Just trying to toss out some info that might help with the understanding of what happened. Good luck at the dealer and let us know how it goes.

If you have another car or a friend that can drive you just pick some fluid up and fill her up instead of wasting money on a tow

If the pump blew up it prob can't hold fluid, so trying to fill it up is a lost cause.

Cars used to run without fluid. It is just hard to steer. If you ever pushed a stalled car it is the same. Fight the wheel it is not dangerous as long as you know your steering time is delayed. So can drive it to dealer.

I thought it was someone else saying there fluid was empty. And I figure he could at least try it unless the whole motor is just straight destroyed than it wouldn't mater if it could hold fluid or not
