1-4 shift
Ok, why does the Camaro shift from 1st to 4th at low speeds??
I know they say because of Gas Taxes. What I don't understand is that I am certain I will use less gas when shifting from 1st to 2nd than from 1st to 4th. At that point you have the hit the pedal real hard to get the car going. Can anybody please explain what I am missing? Thanks |

I agree, it makes no sense to me. Yesterday i installed the skip shift eliminator though so i don't have to worry about it anymore. It was 12 bucks

bad logic IMO opinion on the skip shift. You're in too high a gear, making no torque, giving more gas to make up for it. Can't figure how that saves gas
They should have made the skip shift 2-4, if they felt they had to do it

The skip shift works if you drive it right. So when the EPA tests the camaro they are not hammering the gas down when the trans is in 4th gear thus savings gas since engine RPMs are lower. For practical purposes, yest it is pointless so the skip shift eliminator is great. GM just did us all a favor but adding this so we don't have to pay the gas guzzler tax and we can easily disable it.

Skip shift eliminator is a must on an LS3. Even 1-3 wouldn't be that bad, I do that sometimes.

Make the time to do it. I was the same way; had bought one and kept forgetting/delaying installing it for weeks and cursing my procrastination every time that damn 1-4 shift happened (I do alot of stop-go driving at times).
Got it snapped in there about a week ago and, man, what a relief! The DIC "warning" diagram still pops up but I can shift into 2nd smooth as silk. Skip shift eliminators, an all-time great, cheap invention!

No, not really, lol, dogging the engine to 12K doesn't save me gas. Why so defensive? I'm sorry if you designed it, but I'm no punk kid who never owned a fast car or a manual before and I'm not going to argue with you over it; that's been my experience and if you disagree, oh well, I guess that's life.

I'm guessing just like the MPG ratings, skip shift is based on ideal conditions and probably doesn't take into account real world driving situations.
![]() But hey, if it saves me from paying a $1,300 gas guzzler tax and it's easily disabled by a 99 cent resistor, I'm not going to complain
