2012 Camaro v6 Automatic (Question)
Is there a limit on how fast it will go?
Im getting one really soon and I wanted to know if it does, I don't like limits on cars I own because If im paying for it then I want all that it can do No stupid remarks like you'll never go faster than XX speed. Just tell me if it has a limit on it, and if it does how to remove it. |

118mph with factory 18" rims, 146mph with 19"+ option.
You get higher speed rated tires with the larger rim options. I think 146mph is top end of the v6 (stock), but I could be wrong. Maybe LFX is different from the LLT (2010-2011)

Get the RS package and you'll be limited to 145-146. That's plenty fast enough!

Actually the RS package is limited to 155.
18" heritage wheels and steelies are 118mph. A tune will take the governor out but I don't know what top end on the V6 would be. I'd assume high 160's. I'm sure someone on here knows-- though I doubt they'll speak up and risk getting flamed

You can go as fast as your wallet lets you. Void warranty, remove governor, get the engine tuned. Drop a turbo, cam, crank, exhaust, intake.
But for stock it is what is stated above. But really who needs to go over 100 mph anyways? Most states that is reckless driving which is 6 points off your license and jail time. |

as someone else mentioned, you'll void your warranty if you remove the speed limiter. definitely something to consider. before you do it. your probably better off just getting the RS package as that will get you up to about 155. I don't know the exact number, but a V6 in a car the size and weight of a camaro will probably have a top speed of 165 anyways. I think that extra 10, or maybe even 15 MPH isn't worth voiding your 5 yr 100k mile powertrain warranty. |

I can say unequivocally that I have been able to get my 2LT up to every speed I have ever needed.

Well with the auto 2012s you get a few options. The 2ls is limited to 118 from the factory, the 1lt and 2lt without the RS package are limited to 145, and any car with the RS package is limited to 155. Out of the v6 cars, the 2ls is capable of higher speeds in the top end due to its 2:91 gear ratio. To achieve those higher speeds however, a waranty voiding tune would be required.

There is always a limit to how fast any car can go. This limit is called drag. The LS is the only camaro which isn't close to reaching its drag limit. This limit is primarily due to the tire ratings as mentioned early by another user. You can always add more horespower. Remember the drag force increases with the velocity squared, so there are limiting returns!
