There is a minor league hockey team in Ottowa that is offering to any fan that has a ticket to Friday's game (the 21st) a full refund on Saturday the 22nd if the world ends Friday!!

why would you expect any less.
all you have to do is scan this forum to see how many tin hat wearing people are here. Now multiply that by a couple hundred million and figure out the world wide percentage of tin hat wearing paranoid freaks.. Probably a lot higher than you thought. IMO.. if the world ends fine if the world doesn't end fine Life is what you make it, mines been pretty good, and I am smart enough to realize I can die at any minute of any given day, so I live every day as if it were my last, so in reality who the frack cares about 12-21-12? aside from that, why be afraid of death, you are born dying, the only reason to be afraid is if you haven't made peace with yourself and the life you have led.. Otherwise, bring it on Universe.. I'm ready for ya!

I believe its more of a cultural fascination brought on by our times of movies and TV. The past times being more books and stories. Also, the fact that humans have lived through end times before, like ice ages, floods, etc. Some of those stories and cultures honestly believed it was the end of the world for them and a new beginning.
All kinds of people prepare for it... rich, poor, educated, not so educated. Some people store guns other build bunkers with food and supplies. Not to mention, that death is something we all know is coming to us. Death is our shared destiny. its easy to talk about with others when you share something. Now, me on the other hand.. I'm not prepared, but if my neighbor is nuts and prepared. I'm not going to judge. He just my save my butt one day!
