Picking cars up at the plant

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to take delivery of a car you already paid for AT the plant?

I know if u order a BMW and fly over and pick it up, not only do u get 7% off your final sale price, u get a tour of the plant, get to drive your new BMW right out of the parking lot and they still pay to ship it to the US.

Would be kind of cool to check out the GM plant and not have to worry about railcar gnomes and slow shipping companies?

I really wish we could. I live in Oshawa - maybe 20 minutes northeast of the plant.

It would be fun to pick it up at the plant and drive it home.

Been brought up and denied....

That would be bypassing the dealership you ordered from which is against the law.

The dealership pays for the car from GM then you buy it from the dealership.

And, no, you can't pay the dealer then go pick up your car from the plant.

Even the way vette does it. You go to Bowling Green, Take tour of factory and pics with car at the Vette Museum and get engraved "this car was built for Such and Such" placard.

But they still deliver it to a dealer to go thru the system. You don't drive it home unless it's a dealer in the local area.

why cant people just buy directly from GM, its retarded. The whole car sale system is out dated. People know if they are going to buy a car or not. Salesman in most cases are just a wast of everyone's time. They need to do like Saturn does and just sell everything at a set price. Then as supply and demand goes down lower the price like anything else in the world.

Why cars and furniture are the only things still sold this way is beyond me. Purchasing either one of these items is like stepping back and time and bartering 3 chickens for a pound of butter.

Fking stupid garbage--why do you guys get me started on this!!!

You can get your car directly from the rail yard though. The rail yard company needs a letter from GM to your dealer allowing them to pick it up.

This is so NOT TRUE!!!! Dude don't spread myths like this. Corvette has been doing museum deliveries for a looooong time.

The problem probably stems from it being in a different country.

Yes you do get to drive it home. It's called "museum DELIVERY" for a reason.

What part is not true? The part where you can't buy directly from GM or the part where you can't pick up the car from the Oshawa plant?

You can not buy directly from GM and....
You can not pick up your car from the Oshawa plant due to customs and Canadian laws.

Fact not myth.

You need to change the wording in your original post. While you are correct this way, the wording in your other post is not.

Where you said it can't be done b/c it would be bypassing dealerships.
That's simply not true. Again vettes have been doing museum delivery for years.
