So the LS3 and L99...

The manual tranny engine is the LS3 and the auto tranny mill is the L99? Do I understand that right?

Correct. LS3 = 426hp @ flywheel, L99 = 400hp @ flywheel, and features Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) for improved economy.

OK, thanks Revo, that was my next question, re: fuel management, and then the obvious- is that how the automatic transmission version gets the mileage the manual box gets, and it seems the answer is "yes"

Done deal I guess there are some small differences in the heads and valves in order to accommodate the AFM, but hardly a difference worth mentioning. Are you considering an L99?

No, I prefer manuals; if the new SS had an old skool Muncie M22 4 speed I'd be driving an SS right now, upside down on my trade in or not! I learned to drive on a manual and ever since 1987 I really haven't known where to put my left foot or right hand while in an automatic

no worries then. LS3 packs more power, so you're set. I gota say, that 6 speed is prety nice, only disadvantage I could see with it would be LA traffic...

Boston traffic's pretty bad, but definitely not like LA.
