All About The Gas
I've been using mostly Shell or Sheetz gas. Recently, after reading some post here,I decided to try some Sunoco Ultra. After 3 tanks,it seems like the car gained about 30-50 hp.It has better pickup and about the same MPG.All 3 have 93 octane, yet Sunoco seems to perform better.Might just be in my head, but has anyone else had this experience?

Wow. great input!
I have noticed in my Monte, it is tuned to accept 93, still runs decent on 87. I have noticed that some places have better 93 octane, for example, I usually get Mobil, it tends to run better than mom and pop gas stations that try to keep their prices low. |

Around here Sheetz is only 92 octane, I seem to get lower MPG with sheetz fuel so I try to avoid it.

lol, why? Because it's a reality check? Relax.
OP - you definitely did not gain 30-50 horsepower. At best, you're pulling less timing since you have better octane and less potential for knock. I think a lot of it is placebo effect.

He's not saying his car gained HP off a different gas station, he's saying the car feels like it performs better when he fills up there. Way to welcome a new member guys.
OP, some gas stations have better quality fuel than others. There are a couple gas stations I go to that make the car feel like its operating a little more efficiently.

Maybe Sunoco does not use the 10% Ethanol gasoline mixture or E10. That would definitely make your car feel like it is performing better compared to other gas; that is if the other stations that you usually fill up at are using E10.
Since gas stations started using E10 gasoline in my area, I've noticed lower MPG and lower felt power in my vehicles. I wish they would get rid of the Ethanol mixed gasoline, specifically E10 and E15, but my reasoning why is for another thread. |

Here in PA, we have Sunoco Ultra 94. Some fuels are better than others. I would never put some of those brands in my Camaro (Sam's Club, Giant Food Stores, Citgo (Sh*tgo), etc.). Their Octane ratings are about 10 points lower than they tell you (half water). I only put that junk in my work car because it's cheaper. I have noticed a few times as an experiment, I've put some Sunoco or BP fuels in my work car and I get better MPG. Hell, I've gotten 50 more miles from a tank. As far as feeling an extra kick in the ass from the brand of fuel, I think it's a placebo effect. P.S. Ignore the smartmouths giving you a rough time. Welcome.
