Dealer closed and hasn't contacted me

About 2 weeks ago, my dealer called ad told me he was closing down. He said he was trying to get my car to be shipped to another local dealer and that he was trying to make sure I didn't lose my $500 deposit. I call a few days later and he said for me to not call the 800 number because he didn't want me to interfere and lose my deposit. He said he'd be in touch with me, but I haven't heard from him since and my dealership isn't answering the phones. What should I do?

I would go down there a demand my deposit back on the spot. The dealer has your deposit and if they close, you will likely not see it again. You may loose your spot, but at least you will get your money back. GM does not car if you have a deposit or not, they only car about the order the dealer placed. The deposit is between you and the dealer..

The dealer holds the deposit not GM, I don't see where calling the 800 number will help you in the slightest. If the dealer already filed for bankruptcy good luck getting your deposit back.

I would not wait on them. Go down there and get it back, or verify your car is going to another dealer(check with other dealer). Maybe they have already taken care of it, and just have not notified you, with all things on their mind at a time like this. Just trying to be hopeful for you. But you need to take care of yourself first!

Some dealers had their cars sent to other dealers so you dont lose your place in line, I would in fact call the 800# and tell them whats going on.

i doubt he gave the other dealer your deposit .this is a touch and go situation some people say they cant pawn off to another dealer because that would be another allocation to him . . go and see if anybody is still there if not..take care of business

The dealership is already closed and there is no one to see there.

As far as inflicting damage and put yourself at risk for criminal charges is just plain stupid.

Hopefully it's a credit card and you can call your company.

If not, call GM and find out what they recommend.

Question, I haven't read all your threads Ant but when your dealer told you he was going to close... why didn't you take your money back then and go to another dealer? Just curious.

Similar thing happened to us. GM gave our car to another dealer. You need to call GM customer service immediately!

It may already be too late to get your deposit back. But you might be able to get your car delivered to another dealer for pickup.
