update on signing no export for six months..

A couple of weeks ago, I asked a question if anyone else had to sign a non-export agreement for six months upon purchasing his/her Camaro. I was in the the neighborhood of my dealer, and I went in and asked why I had to sign that document.
According to the sales manager, it supposedly is a GM-wide policy so we don't profiteer by selling the Camaro somewhere else in the world.

A couple of weeks ago, i had posed a question asking if anyone else had to sign a no-export for six months of your Camaro. I had also asked why, possibly, did i have to sign that paper, and was that a dealership or a GM policy.

I got chided for not asking why when I bought my Camaro, but it wasn't going to stop me from buying it. I was just curious as to the whys and wherefores.

some people did sign one, and some people did not.

I'd read your original post, and had been wondering about that since. It doesn't seem legal or enforceable... I mean, if you purchase something (especially paying cash, as I believe you had done), it then belongs to you... you could set it on fire and roll it off a cliff if you wanted... and I don't see why/ how they (whoever "they"is, presumably GM) can legally prevent anybody from doing what they want to do with their possessions...

Some of took the time to comment on your original post, that we had indeed signed the document and why.

In my opinion, if anyone would have any say so on what you can or cannot do with your stuff (for some reason, george carlin pops in my mind as i typed that.) would be the government of where you export it and the US government.
I do know that, at least back in the 90s, you couldn't get the highest encrypted version of internet explorer and netscape, unless you were in the US. and maybe some of the electronics in the car.

But, at the same time, i agree with you, in that it is mine, i can do pretty much what i want with it.

Interesting, but if it is indeed a GM-wide practice, it doesn't explain why I've never been asked to sign such a document on the last 5 Chevy's I've bought over the last 16 years?

I'm pretty sure selling something conditionally is perfectly legal.

But did you finance your last 5 Chevy's? This document is for those who paid clean out, as in check/cash. Mine was paid for the day I picked it up.

It's a move to keep Camaros out of the hands of those of us who don't live in the USA and want another option other than the GM dealers in countries such as mine. For example, we didn't get the 1LE and only received three (03) ZL1s, so we're kind of limited in selection. It hasn't and never will keep private buyers from buying from those who want to sell in the USA and it won't keep us from registering less than 6 months old Camaros that are US spec.

Hey, Ken_

where are you at?? I'm not going to hunt you down or anything. I think i read somewhere where at least the UK is only getting, i think, the 2SS/RS versions over there. I could be wrong.
