New to the page and also asking opinions
Hi, I'm Dann. New to the Camaro5 community. I currently own a 1991 Camaro Z28 which is my second car and Camaro. Very soon plan on purchasing my 5th gen. So I can't decide on getting a SS or sticking to a 6. If I get the V8 I couldn't afford two cars and I'd have to sell my 91 and the 5th gen would be my only car. if I get a used 6 cylinder I can afford to keep my Z28 and work on that like had already planned and use the 6 cylinder everyday for work. If you knew me you would know how much I like my Z28. What do you guys think? I have been contemplating this for a long time now.

I just bought my 2010 Camaro with the V6, And I LOVE it bro.. I mean I know the SS has way more horses, But the V6 will surprise you.. RUNS AWSOME, and is GREAT on gas.. If you love your Z28 and want to keep her, The V6 is the way to go.. NOW, that being said, I must worn you that once you start driving the gen 5, you are going to fall in love and just might want to invest your time and money into fixing her up instead of the Z28.. So you need to consider that. I know that once I got mine, I cant stop adding new stuff to it. BUT, I am extremely happy and content with a V6... Ive had my days of crazy horse power and now I just want a sweet ride that I can enjoy...

Give us a rundown on your Z28 please. It might make us have better insight into your situation.

Heres a recent pic of my current Z28. I have a few parts for the Z28 to build it up. Also the price of the V8 models are a little much for me right now to have both of the cars. I was thinking of working my way up to the V8s as they get a little cheaper. I found a 2013 1LT model with 6k miles on it for $23k thought that was a pretty good deal.

well the front emblem was something I did just to do something different. Someone was selling it on ebay. As far as special to me it was how hard I worked for it when I first bought it. That and I just really like the third gens as well as the fifth gens.

My best advice to you is to do what's within your means, take care of your family if you have one, and go for the V8 on the Gen 5 if you can swing it. There's too many stories on here about people regretting V6 purchases. If you want power get the V8, if you want the car and fuel economy get the V6.
I'm not bashing the V6, so all you haters can quit before you start. |

Stay within your means. If you really want to keep the Z, buy what you can afford and be able to keep it. Never buy a car that straps you in all other areas. You won't enjoy it.

Keep the '91 z28 bc if you sell it then you will regret it later, especially if you want to keep it. The v6 has over 300hp & you can get a manual trans too. It's not the v8 but no 3rd gen had over 300hp. Also if you are asking about it bc you can't afford the ss & the z28, the v6 would be the one for you bc of the great fuel eco. Overall cost of ownership is less on v6.
At the end of the day it's you that has to make the decision bc it's your $$$ & you have to live w/ what you decide. |

It sounds like you can just afford these two cars.
To me that means: don't do it. And anyway, you'd want to keep both Camaros really nice I assume. It's bad enough being a slave to one car. Try two.

Starting with a V6 and "working your way up to the V8 as they get cheaper" is by far the most expensive way to buy one.
It sounds like you really like your existing car. If the finances are such that you're looking at compromising what you really want just to add a 5th gen as a second car, then my suggestion is to hold off until the cost is not a concern. |

Why pay 23k for a 13 V6 when you can buy a 10/11 ss manual ls3 with more miles and maybe less options for $24/25k? This is my opinion keep in mind. If you cannot afford the V8 right now but really want one just wait before you get a V6 (not really a performance car) although that is not thier purpose. Just dont be in a hurry and do what you think makes practical sense.
